CV joints gone on drivers side..

Featured Replies

Hey all, my boyfriend has a 12 plate fabia Monte Carlo. He changed the 17" standard alloys so some 18's but the started to notice they wee rubbing quite a bit. We the changed the alloys to a set of 15's yesterday and the car seemed fine to drive to start off with then all of a sudden we started to here a knocking noise art he went full lock right... Recovery have said its the cv joint and I'm sure it is as well. Do you guys have any advice as to where we can get another? It's pretty urgent as he relies on his car for work. Any advice or help will be appreciated :)

Kayleigh :)

I am sure this part will be replaced under warranty I also wouldn't worry too much about it, if it is only knocking on full lock. Get it booked in drive steady until it is replaced.

Personally I think it will be something else as CV joints usually last a long time.

The warranty wouldn't be valid anymore cause he changed the wheels?

don't tell them. In fact the warranty will be valid, what happens when you put winters on the car? or you use the skinny spare wheel etc, I would just take it in, I am running BBS on my Fabia and nothing was said at the service.

Give it a try wheels shouldn't affect the CV joint.

Yah gonna book it in just got to try find the time around his work to get it done and however long the part takes to come as well. Such a pain. Thanks for the help really appreciate it :):D

Can't see how even if they know about it that the dealership/Skoda UK could claim the warranty is invalidated due to different rims!

Get it into the dealership and don't even mention the wheels.

Changing the weeks or anyother mod may not directly effect the warranty BUT if an outside influence OR a modification causes a failure of a part thats where the issues start.

I presume you mean wheels!

I fully understand that if a modification directly or even indirectly causes a problem then the warranty could be negated. However I really doubt that just changing the wheels is going to cause a problem, unless they are physically too large or small for the vehicle. An outside influence such as hitting a kerb, yes maybe, but it should be down to the dealer to determine and show that the cause is outwith the warranty.

Yes i did mean wheels lol

And your right its for the dealer to prove.

Ive never know wheels to cause such a problem. The only time ive heard of driveshat or CV joint faliure from mods is either too much power or lowering a car too much

Sure its not a loose wheel? I assume they are correct fitment for a Fabia because if the centre bore is too small, the wheel won't be fully on the hub and hence floating..
