Simple question

Will a 16 inch wheel fit over 312mm discs? Have upgraded my brakes and just wondering if my spare which is only 16 inch (whereas my main wheel are 17 inch) needs changing too....

Thanks

Adam

I Imagine so.

Looking at my 16 Inch alloys with 288mm discs, there seems to be quite a bit of space.....certainly more than the 24mm difference in diameter between my discs and yours.

The only question would be the calipers....Are presume they are different/bigger on the 312mm disc.....this may be more of an issue.

Thanks. The calipers are the same, its the carriers that are bigger setting them 24mm further out from the middle of the wheel. The caliper then acts further out from the middle providing a greater braking force.

Ahh, I see.

Although the discs are 24mm bigger in diameter, that makes them 12mm bigger in radius. So the caliper would only have to be mounted 12mm further out to accommodate the bigger disc?

If it's 12mm then I think the clearance would still be fine looking at my 16 inch wheel, If it is 24mm I'm not so sure....it'd be very tight.

Very true it would only be 12mm further out from the centre of wheel. Sounds like I'm ok with a 16 inch wheel. Be nice to know if any vrs owner has used a 16 inch winter wheel to be sure...

I've 16's on at the moment so yes they fit.

A 16 inch steel wheel will fit over front beakes as thats what my vrs has and fits over efortlisy.

Great thanks chaps

Adam

16s fit fine over the 312mm.

I am running the OEM 16" alloys with my winters over 312mm. There is clearance, but not a huge amount.
