Changing front fog bulbs

On my first attempt after checking the manual I could not work out what to do to remove it. I had been expecting some sort of sprint retaining clip that swivelled out of the way. Not so.

There are 3 clips and the bulb appears to just be pushed into them.

To remove the bulb I ended up just pushing down on the bulb contacts and it become free and came out.

That was the easy part.

I really struggled to get the orientation right to get the bulb back in place. I must be loosing my touch!!!

To make matters worse, it goes in at an angle, roughly 45 degrees.

Sorry about the focus, it is quite tight in there!

The offending bulb......

I hope this helps anybody else who has problems removing the bulbs.

Easy when you know how, but getting it lined up is a pig.

I find that it can sometimes be easier to see the orientation of the bulb by looking from the outside of the lamp.

That is, with bulbs you can get almost into the holder and just rotate to fit correctly.

Mind you, in this case I suspect that the bulb flange is too far away from the seat, to make any difference, before it is pushed fully it.

Rocky, can the bulb be rotated once held in rough position by the spring clips?

Easy job, did it today. Drove into my friendly Skoda dealer, asked him to fit me a new foglamp bulb, sat and read my paper for 10 minutes, and drank his coffee, while the grease monkey did the job, paid for the cost of the bulb and drove away. No cold, dirty hands for me, no swearing when it won't fit.

Yes bob, but at your age you can't be expected to get the arthritic fingers working to DIY ;)

Not very easily. I found that I needed to pull away and then push back in, even if just rotating by a few degrees.

I used the camera on the phone to check if it was lined up properly. Took about 20 photos

I just could not feel the tab locating in the cut out.

That did cross my mind, but they are 10 miles away in the wrong direction, and I can't spare 2 hours just for traveling there and back during a busy work day. Even spending 30 mins working out how to do it was pushing it!

At least the warning light has gone now.

Love the fact that I've got some of you checking posts to see if they're 'dogproof'

Perfect timing! My warning lamp and CHECK FRONT LEFT FOG LIGHT came on yesterday! I need to pick up a new bulb.

Is it an H7? Of course the manual doesn't say!

I recently changed both fog lamp bulbs for 2 Osram Nightbreaker +90% from Euro Car Parts, They were on special offer at under £12 for two including P&P, Gone up now, but still good value at £17.99 all in.

And they are certainly much brighter than the originals.

I changed the driver's side first, on the basis that there is more space behind the lamp unit and you can almost see what you are doing. I was initially fooled by the lack of retaining clip, but eventually found that you just pull 'em out (so to speak).

Then to the passender side. Rather fiddly extracting the old bulb, but a sod of a job getting the new one back in..... until I hit on the idea of using an old mirror and a very bright LED torch. Once you get the hang of everything being back to front, it was a doddle to get the "wide tab" into its slot in the housing. Mind you, my hands are fairly small - I can readily appreciate that someone with bigger hands will struggle.

Merlinman, have you just politely said RTFM?

Cheers - I'm using the .pdf version from the Skoda site and nothing in there. I'll have to dig out my paper copy ! How quaint.

Merlinman, have you just politely said RTFM?

I know I know, but my electronic .pdf manual doesn't show this info (even searching on H7 or Fog)! Maybe I should just stick to the old ways......

Err - that info WAS from my .pdf copy! :)
