So I have noticed smoke starteing to come out of my flexi pipe and wondering what I could do about it as I dont really want to buy a whole new pipe...Anyone have any ideas?

Replace the flexi?

Replace the flexi will be the cheaper thing to do.

Take it to an exhaust place and ask them to do it mate.

Well worth going out of your way to mend what you have with a new flexi, rather than replace the whole section. Aftermarket cats have a reputation for low quality, short life and nasty sound.

Maybe have a search on this forum as someone raised a thread on that topic, and I used that info and bought what I found to be the correct "flexi repair" section. Senior Aftermarket I think was who I bought mine from, then I took it and the car to a proper exhaust fabricator, in my case, in Falkirk. Well that is sort of what I did as the fixer guy just bought what was roughly the right part - and it wasn't, so I bought the correct part and got them to fit it. That repair has lasted 5+ years so far.

Two other points, firstly I'd reckon that to get repaired as I did will cost £65>£95, secondly, that ebay exhaust will be correct if your engine code matches what is listed, and its just the second cat that gets replaced, the "main" cat, or manucat is before that junction.

Maybe I was unlucky, but the only flexi sections I could buy from a motor factor when I needed one, was a single skinned section that is only fit for use nearer the end of the exhaust, remember this section is very close to the first cat so needs to take a serious ammount of heat. That is why the "top of the range" flexi repair section was the best choice.

we got one for a mpi polo from local shop, that was in a similar place ( at bottom of down pipe ) and it worked fine... i suppose like you say it depends on the quality of the pipes the local shop carries?

I'm guessing that that Polo was the earlier type with only one cat, 5 years ago, getting any sensible locally was a real challenge - even for the local specialist exhaust fabricator, he had to make do with his "mobile supplier" could provide, which in all fairness was exactly the correct grade of flexi for that application/position, but it too large a diameter and the flexi part was too short. Out come of that was nasty resonances and a not flexible enough exhaust - and he claimed there was no problem. Sourcing the correct part for him - flexi length guessed by me as original part had gone, and correct diameter as outlined by Senioraftermarket's website, allowed the car to be as it had been previously.
