One of my keys won't start at?

Featured Replies

Hi. Today I picked up my 2003(53) plate octavia vrs, an the key I was using is fine an starts car. But the 2nd key wont start car and the car symbol with spanner on it flashes on dash?? Anyone have an idea why,? Also when I do start car with working key it beeps a few times before I start car? As I say I only picked it up tonight so don't know much about it,

Any info on this or any pointers/tips much appreciated,

Thanks

Its not coded to the car. Have you got the immobiliser code with the vehicle at all? Usually in a clear snap-tab with the original spare key, WIth VCDS you can recode the key.

Beeping could be seatbelt reminder

Could the beeping be low outside temp warning? For the key, back to dealer as you only just got it and get them to sort it.

Not sure if I have code but taking it to the dealer sounds easy :). Ill check if its seatbelt today thanks. Think it beeps either 5 or 6 times, cheers for replys guys. :).

ISTR there's a method for re-synchronising keys in the owner's manual.

I suspect you've got a flat battery in the "dead" key.

No I didn't see anything in the book for re-coding it but rang skoda an its £40. the locks/unlocks the car remotely but just don't start it cuts off.

The cutting out is because the immo chip in the key is no longer coded to the car, without the 4 digit SKC code it will need to go back to main skoda dealer to be recoded. To complete this they will need both keys including the one that works, as you in effect delete all the keys and start again. This could be what has happened in the past, and the owner only had one key available at the time.

A long constant chime will be the outside temp below 4c or low fuel alarm, a series of short bongs will be because you started the car without a fastened seatbelt.

if you bought it from a garage then get them to sort it out. Main dealers aren't the only people that can program VAG keys. Generally people that do car keys for a living will be cheaper than the dealers & they will also come to you. So no need to leave your car at a dealers for half a day for a 2min job
