17 inch alloys rubbing on back wheel arch solutions?

Featured Replies

Hi guys I have bought a set of 17 inch alloys with tyres, the tyres are 215/45/17's . Is there any solution to this other than buying 40's. Just spent a fair bit getting these alloys blasted and painted plus £60 getting the tyres taken off refitted and balanced.vJust seems to be one arch at the back....GRRRRRRRRR

NSR wheel arch lining, small square bit I guess? Not sure if cutting it off will help, but I'm afraid 16's with 45's or the 17's with a lower sidewall is the only way AFAIKpost-73816-0-02764900-1362162658_thumb.jpg Don't know what's under that bit as I've never had the arch liner off, but it's there for some reason as the off side is shaped differently

All you need is a baseball bat and some balls, like that.

for an extra £40-60 i wouldnt do the baseball thing just pay to have them rolled for a silly bit of money why risk it??

Think that's where the fuel filler pipe routes. Can't see the pic that clear so might be wrong

hi johngt,

i've put 205 55 16 winter tyres on my fabia vrs and i had rubbing on the rear inner arch protector i removed them both, you should see the amount of build up of crap behind them both, my tyre was rubbing on the near side due to the shape of the inner protector, i removed them and i haven't had a problem since. give it a go.

Here is a quick photo I took in the dark a minute ago, you can see there is an angled bit that is making contact with the tyre when going over bumps.

that will defo rub as mine had a small gap and did, remove the inner lining and see what the difference is. mine has standard rear shocks too.

With 17s you should have 40 profile really. .

With 45 profiles your clocks will be out too.

with 45 profiles your speedo will be under reading by a fair bit and if you have a bump having the wrong size tyres (rolling radius) on will effect your insurance

I really should have 40's but like I said I bought the wheels from ebay and paid to get them refurbed, should have done my research before I splashed the cash. lol. Was wondering if anybody else had removed the plastic cover and cut a bit off, will have to have a proper look tomorrow in the daylight. Just got my wheels on today.Wondered how long before someone brought up insurance.

Speedo would be under reading by 3.5 m.p.h at 60 m.ph.

Built not bought? :D

In a word. No. The reason you have rubbing is because you have the wrong size tyres and possibly the wrong offset if the tyres are rubbing on the inside of the arch.

Or fit the correct sized tyre being 205/45/16 for a fabia.

Jesus don't start lopping off bits of your car, just buy the correct size tyres. Not only that, 45s on 17s look stupid on the fabia

surely the easiest solution to this is ....

you said you just bought 17's..... so leave the 16's on the car till you get correct size tyres?

Before you completely s**g the 45 profile tyres, why not just put them up on ebay as used, get a bit of money back for them and use that to buy tyres that actually fit your car rather than rolling arches, throwing bits off of your car and having a wrong reading speedo lol. There must be somebody out there, maybe even on here that may be after the tyres you have? And that kid does have balls doing that to his car lol, i know i wouldn't!
