MACH LOOP LOW FLY

Featured Replies

Quite a few of you have been looking at the post about military aircraft.

I am going to visit the Mach Loop on 18th April, this will be mainly for photographic purposes and of course for the buzz of the aircraft passing at 150 feet around 500 mph or more.

If you want to join me and some others from a photography forum we meet at 8:30AM at the Little Chef Dolgellau, you will need warm clothes, good boots or sturdy shoes and of course some provisions for the day. If you are un fit, the climb will do you good and will just take a bit longer than if you are fit.

I hope you can join us and then you will see why people are fascinated by military aircraft.

I will be travelling from Liverpool area to Wales and will have two spare seats if anybody would like a lift, just let me know (first come first serve)

It looks something like this, here is a video from a mate of mine.

You missed the Herc at about 250' over Llanidloes yesterday! Been a few lately.

Here is a link to the interest off the my photography forum, we have a few takers already, on page two this shows the locations we go to.

It is odd to see those photographs of a road I drive every week, stalked by air forces from around the world. Yet I have never stopped to climb the tops and get a closer view. I might join you that Thursday, if I may? (er... and if I remember).

You are welcome to join us freedie, I hope we get a good crowd up on the mountain, it is a great day out even if you do not take photographs. The hairs on the back of your neck stand up when a Tornado or F15 screams by!

Would a dog be welcome?

skodaman, I take Winston, he is a black labrador and Mark is taking a weinmaraner, so as long as your dog is sociable I don't see any problem.

Cool. I'll hopefully see you there!

I'm intrigued by this - Is this a regular, or anual thing? Is it simply a training exercise at random? There seems to be a lot of planes of different types to me.

OK just googled it, makes more sense now. A470 even without planes is a great road to drive along, and I've been meaning to stroll up Penygadair for some time now.

Monday to Friday every week! However it can be like fishing, I have been about 10 times and one of those days I did not see any aircraft. But when you do it is great.

Are you joining us?

Ooh, very nice. Not sure if I'd be able to go that day but will definitely check this out at some point. Any tips on good or bad days or times?

It really is the look of the draw, but don't go on weekends or bank holidays as you will see nothing, I try and go tuesday, wednesday or thursday but even then it is not guaranteed to see anything.

I can only make a weekday if it's a holiday, and those are precious days! The first week of April after Easter is the only chance I have tbh.

So the video isn't one afternoon then! How many visits did it take, or put another way, if you spent a day there, how many planes on average would you expect to see, and on a really good day?

That's what sick days are for....

Last time I went, we saw 10 aircraft, these ranged from Hercules, Tornado, F-15's and hawks, even an apache helicopter, they do not fly weekends or bank holidays.

There is mobile phone signal for O2, Orange and Vodafone that I know of, so like me work from home on the 18th April

I think the sound of a RB199's afterburners kind of gives the game away.

Another time!
