Prosport coilovers, my two cents

Some of you may know the story behind me buying Prosports, but for those of you who don’t know here is a quick update….

I was looking at coil overs for my vRS and I was given information that FK were going to have a sale on high sports. I managed to grab them for £256! What a steal. Unfortunately it was too good to be true and their system messed up and charged me too much and in the end they cancelled my order. Obviously not interested in my business!

So I quickly went over to DPM and bought the Prosports. £197 with free postage, who can complain! They turned up quite quickly and this Tuesday they went on. Was quite easy to install besides all the corroded bolts!

I’ve heard a lot of people knocking these, saying they crash about and the ride is rubbish, which made me a bit scared! But from what I have felt I can’t see where they are coming from. The ride is stiff at the moment, but it is not uncomfortable. When I hit a pot hole or anything it “donks” but there is no “crashing about” It recovers quite quickly. The ride is just so much better and feels really nice now and to anybody looking for cheap coilovers, defiantly go for them!

With my car, I have the RARB, wishbone poly bushed, dogbone mount poly bushed and I am using the vito drop links. As for my ride, I have 2.5cm worth of thread on the front and 1cm on the rear. 5mm spacers on the front 15mm on the rear.

I hope this helps anybody looking.

The reason there is no fitment issues is because the op doesn't have a vrs. So no front anti roll bar issues.

So just to make people aware that have not seen all the other posts

  • The OP does have a VRS , The OP also has used the Merc vito drop links coz of the ARB bracket issue that is now well documented.need to read the post better buddy...

  • Sheet! I don't have a vrs! All the lies I've told about owning one! I am fraud!

Glad you like them buddy

You can't see where we are coming from coz you don't have them stupidly low, so your ride is ok.

You certainly will know where we are coming from if you go lower. This is the big factor

Fair enough! well I think at this height it looks good and is comfortable. TBH, I thought it was this height everyone was talking about!

Your height is not low low but typical for VRS folks with coilovers and is spot on. The VDub owners go way lower.

I am a lot lower than yours on KW's

Old pic with my old RS4 alloy.

This is a more recent pic although I am actually a tad lower now lol, at front and rear as have 12mm front spacers to clear the coil over platforms.

I did fit 15mm rear spacers, no chance arches hit big time. removed them.

Keep an eye on your 5mm spacers too as these have a tendency to crack as not enough metal to give a solid hubcentric position.

Are spacers a necessity? I've been looking at these as a 'not very low' option, car has 225/45/17 tyres fitted...

Think you need spacers when you have 225 tyres to clear spring platforms,I've got 205 tyres with my coilovers as low as will go and their very close

if you are running std offset wheels and have coilovers set low with a 225/45/17 tyre you will be very close if not rubbing the platforms.

Mine rubbed which is why i have 12mm spacers. you will need 8mm spacers or above or have your car at a height that does not need spacers as the platforms will be higher than the tyre.

Like DBP setting in first post the platform will be high enough to miss the tyres

no they are not if you are set to a "not very low option"

Good to hear some positive feedback! Thinking about getting some prosports myself. I heard that you need different drop links, Vito ones from what I remember. Do you remember how much the drop links were or even a part number if you don't mind me asking?

Prosport should take note of this and supply the correct sized drop links in the kit!!

apparently, with some selotape, and a ball of wool, and a piece of ply, these fit just great and handle really well with the wool bump stop

A quick question from a none Octy owner.

I have a Golf MK III, I will be using it only for the track, it currently has coilovers on it from a German company called Patec that no longer exists, front near side is knackered so this means I need new, I have been looking at GAZ GHA, I am looking at these as if I damage one in the future I can just replace the damaged one and no need to buy a full set cost is around the £550

What are your thoughts on GAZ?
