Remapping

Featured Replies

I am just starting to think about possibly remapping my 1.8 T Elegance.

However i have several questions relating to this and some help would be much appreciated.

How does it affect my warranty with Skoda???

How does it affect my fuel economy, i am currently averaging 34mpg and can easily get 40 on a run.

If i went to somewhere like Jabbasport, would i need anything else along with the remap such as uprated dump valve.

How much extra could i expect to pay on my insurance?

I suspect it may be cheaper to sell and get a vRS but i don't really want to do this as a standard vRS does not have as many gadgets as my Elegance and i don't think i could afford one with all the extras on anyway.

Also what would be a sensible remap in terms of Bhp and torque increase as i do not want to start blowing things up after it has been done due to too much stress on the engine

Thanks for any replies

Rob

Warranty

Technically it voids it but it will very much depend on the dealers attitude, most are "understanding"

Economy

It could be slightly better provided you are disiplined but obviously when you use the extra performance it uses more fuel

Extras

A variable boost controller is a good dea, that way you can turn it back to standard when driving normally to save fuel, this will also stop it overboosting if you get any other problems

Insurance

Extra cost depends on each company so you will have to ask them

As for what to map to, with the std Turbo etc you will not be able to map the car to a point where the Engine starts to suffer. Jabba can normally get to about 220-225 bhp & I think yours is 150 as std. The std 1.8T engine can safely be taken to about 350 bhp before any internal mods are required. The only thing that is likely to suffer a noticably shortened life might be the clutch & this is also very dependant on how you drive. If you are a reosnably enthusiatsic driver you may want to budget for an uprated clutch in the future or replacing the std one at more frequent intervals. A cheaper upgrade than many of the performance clutches advertised is to fit a Corrado G60 clutch & flywheel

You will probably also walk around with more of these :):):)

Weve had both our Octys mapped by Jabba & are very pleased with both

Hope this helps

Stuart

If you're worried about warranty then you could go for a switchable software and put it in stock mode for servicing/warranty work, they wouldn't see any alteration then!

As Stuart says though, certain dealers aren't too bothered about mods we do actually have dealers that supply our software.

I think for 350 bhp you'd want the S3/TT225 engine with the uprated internals.

How much was Bill running in his Beeza on standard mechanicals? 360-ish bhp?

You also have to factor in the way the car is driven...again a good example is Bill....well known for his Granny like driving abilities.;)

If you're going to do a lot of tracks days...are a traffic light GP driver...then uprating the internals is definately the way to go.

Another effect you may find is that things get further away. For instance, the local corner shop is just at the end of my road; I can walk there in five minutes. Going by car, though, involves driving past the shop, a blast up a dual carriageway, and back along an NSL single carriageway. I guess it's worth it for the :D factor...

Thanks for the replies.

I just need to get some cash together i guess. Still a bit wary of warranty implications. Perhaps i should wait til warranty is over?

Thanks again

Er' date=' that depends...

Before I bought the Octavia, I was used to buying cars with just [i']one[/i] year's warranty (Citroens, if you must know). IIRC, apart from one claim within the warranty period (on five new cars), I never had to pay anything over and above the standard servicing charges for the first three years.

It's a gamble - How much of a problem would it be if your warranty ran out now, compared with how likely you are to have a failure. I was happy to have my car remapped (and implicitly void the warranty) after just two years, and never regretted it. YMMV
