VRS Oil Light (Again!)

Featured Replies

Please can someone shed any light on this problem?

I've had loads of work done on my 03 vrs recently including a new sump pickup pipe, turbo and cats. Everything's been fine until I had the red oil warning light illuminate for a few seconds then go off today. I've got the Torque app on my phone and this doesn't show anything. The levels are correct on the oil and water, but (And this may just be a coincidence) if the heater is on full the light doesn't seem to come on. Has anyone had this before? It caused a big problem a few years ago when the original oil pump failed and wrecked the bottom end! All this has been corrected now and just don't want it to happen again!

Could this be a faulty sensor, and if so, how could this be checked?

Thank for any help on this and apologies for the way I've trid to word it!

Paul

Could get oil pressure checked to make sure its within spec

Get the oil pressure checked, sounds like it verging on low pressure,I've had an oil pressure gauge fitted since I get my vrs nearly 6 years ago, reads just over 100 psi when cold, just over 60 psi when warm cruising and 30 psi at idle when warm, mileage is just over 100 k,never had a new oil pump pick up pipe, just oil changes every 3,000 miles.

I would stop driving it asap and get it looked at.

Thanks folks.I'll get it pressure checked.

I'd be tempted to drop the sump and check the pick up, if they have used too much sealent it could have cause the new pick up to block.

very rare that happens TBH, but still checking if the pick up pipe is clean.

I have seen a new pick up replaced but the owners infrequent oil changes meant the pipe got clogged with crud again....

Just a quick heads op on this. I've had the oil pressure tested and there;'s no problem with it. They've also replaced the oil sensor switch but the light is still coming on. They seem to think it's an electrical problem that's causing the light to come on. Has anyone had this problem and how to cure it?

I think I need to get a gaugh fitted for peace of mind, can anyone suggest a cheapish gauge to fir into the DIN under the stereo?

Thanks again

Have got a 56 plate and having same problem with oil pressure light .. did you get to the bottom of this in the end ?

If the oil light is red... pressure problem..

My oil light came on the other day Orange, topped up oil an  it didn't go back out. Whippin the sump off tomorrow and cleaning the pick up and oil level sensor. That's my culprit I'm sure

I doubt that is your problem buddy.

Your problem is beyond the OP issues.

The OP either had:

- a suspect electrical issue,

- a real blockage but after the pick up pipe

- oil not cleaned out or replaced and  still a blockage somewhere

- unlucky with a replacement pump

- all of the above

It is common for a poor garage to do the basics, pick up pipe etc and oil change but the oil pipe to turbo and other return pipes could still be blocked so over time they collect crud again and back to square one.

Your problem is you have a orange light which is not pressure but level, so you more than likely had all above happen and now you have a fecked turbo as your previous posts with your smoking at idle and regular topping up of oil suggest this. so you are well past the point of return replacing just pick up pipe TBH.

Well I've only had the car a week.. Orange came on, topped up and it remained on...

Yes the turbo is fuked but I wouldn't mind guessing that's why the previous owner swapped it with me!

I will have an air line handy and blast the oil pipes to turbo when the old one is off just to make sure. But in the week I've had it  never seen the red light only when ignition is first turned on then it goes out

Tomorrow will sort it fingers crossed

I now have a new turbo by the way :-)

I am not saying you caused it dude, but the guy who had it before  you may of had the red light first, who knows but left you with a larger bill than  you had hoped for in few weeks of ownership.

makes you feel glad you manged to get the tuning parts cheap though right. You could of gone for a Hybrid while you were at it and make the most out of your not so lucky week...

Mate, after the week I've had spend wise... I will be more than happy to live with it Inc  I've sorted things for now and spend nowt else for a few weeks...

Didn't expect the bill I've been hit with but being able to do the work myself has saved me 3 times the spend in labour! :-o

But the only way to look at it is the car will b better for it. Well that's what I tell myself anyway lol

Agreed on your point, the last owner obv didn't have a clue and near drove it into the ground.. thank God for the car I came along ay :-D

All fun n games :-o

If it was me, I'd clean/blow the pcv valve out at the same time, only a few minutes work.

Where's the Pcv valve as I'm changing a few breather pipes under the manifold soon and may as well clean it out if it's located in that area.

On the help identifying hose thread, it is part number 9 in mushtafa's diagram.

If you are going the silicone route, some come with a new valve in the ad, worth checking if the one you are looking at does?.
