Washing the monster - annoying design

Featured Replies

Have just given the beast a good clean - it may not get many more before the new L&K arrives - and have been annoyed again by the silly design of the back bumper assembly that slopes inwards and traps dirt, water etc. under the tailgate. If the facelift does nothing else, hopefully it might address this issue.

simple solution, don't wash the car! :notme:

Just washed mine for the first time in 6+ months and , guess what its grey :giggle:

Andrew, you are supposed to park it so that the nose is higher than the rear, then the water runs off!

That doesn't work. My drive is on a slope and the water still ponds in the back bumper.

Andy

Well it isn't steep enough then!!

:giggle:

Can I suggest an angle of 75o :giggle:

Yes, my carport is on a pretty steep slope but the water still gathers. Not a huge issue, to be true, but a daft bit of design none the less.

Agreed, one of my major dislikes with an otherwise great design. I do a bit of walking with a local group and use the boot edge to sit on to change into my boots. Many times I've had to dry away the pool of water. I've even considered drilling drainage holes into the channel.

I always give it a clean before washing the car ... my problem is reaching the roof, I'm not short but need step ladders to make a job of it!

I use an old caravan door step which is stable and allows me to reach the middle of the roof.

I do that too sometimes for quickness ... the caravan is stored on our drive ... but find I need the ladders to get to the centre of the roof without soaking my t-shirt.

I've had a good crop of cress, grown in that crevice.........

Very well developed, considering the fertiliser thrown up from the road.....

The principle is good. Anyone have ideas on what you'd have to go through (or carefully miss!) to get a clear drain :wonder: ? I still haven't had a good look round underneath (soon be Spring!).

I thought there were two oblong drainage holes already there?

And asi have discovered, and demonstrated to Llanigraham when he polled up to listen to our music, the superb estate has exactly the same aggravating and annoying defect.

Yeah good point. With my new one, it is amazing the amount of things they have changed. I think they redesigned all of the door seals to reduce wind noise. The upper seal is definitely redesigned on the windscreen. I also note the front windscreen wipers have been moved, so they don't hit the edge of the bonnet. This is without the service mode with the windscreen wiper control!!! Used to drive me nuts...

Like others, I stand on the rear tyre when washing the car roof, then use a small step stool to do the bit above the windscreen that I cant otherwise reach.

Pretty effective - though i must confess that sometimes I don't bother washing the roof at all..... !

If there are, they don't do anything!

Following my flippant remarks of yesterday, guilt feelings struck, having rediscovered an Auto Glym pack of freebies in the car when first collected, I tried their vinyl and rubber care prod, always been sceptical of these things, but humble pie time(pass the knife and fork someone)the result on the external vinyl was brilliant, restored the colour to dark grey with a slight sheen!

Now to try it on the internal boot area!

I washed mine for the first time in months over the weekend. Got the local hand washers to jetwash all the mud off of it first, before finishing it off at home. Used some Tar Remover which was excellent, and then Iron-X which surprised me at how much came out of the paint and alloys. Then clayed and polished it. Finally, decontaminated the plastics and coated them with C4 which makes them look brand new.

Parked up near work this morning and it's covered in dirt already! Bah!!

Not in mine - just had a look.
