2007 Octavia PD170. Brake Switch. Help!

Featured Replies

Right got the brake switch code or rather a bank of codes and need to change out the brake switch as its 99% this...

Went to the footwell and set about removing the trim so I could replace the switch...

but wait.....no switch visible!

Turns out mine is an oddball of sorts with the Brake switch buried deep in the engine bay beneath the master cylinder!

Now how the hell am I to change this, I presume its Master Cylinder out time?

Thanks

Mike

Yours would be the first I've seen with the brake switch not on the pedal. Are you totally sure?

Can anyone help at all?

Im guessing im the only one then!! Looks like a voyage of discovery of access to the switch so....

So my main man sorted this for me in the end. The switch is held in by one screw, and is better accesible from the bottom. So jack car up with loads of room etc...nimble fingers still needed though.

Just need to get the codes cleared and hopefully thats that!

Interesting as I thought they were on the pedal itself. So it's under the brake reservoir ?

The upside of this apparent design change is that tall drivers no longer can accidentally kick the switch and make it inoperable. Happened to me 2 or 3 times on the Octy 1, though removing and recalibrating the switch helped every time.

Yes tucked well away under the reservoir! PIA!

What year is your vRS.

Is the location of your switch the old location or the current location?

  • Author

I would have assumed its the old location, my vRS is a 2007 Combi PD170.

I got the switch from local VW dealers as there are no SKoda dealers nearby. They knew the two differing switchs straightaway and it was suggested it was the older style.
