Headlight

Featured Replies

Hello forum,

First question to ask on here! Driving home (2009 FL Octavia VRS Estate) last night down some dark lanes with high beam on, ended up driving over a pot hole in the road, no damage to wheels or tyres that l can see? However the headlight bulb for high beam, blew and has thrown bits of hot glass into the headlight and have stuck to the reflector and headlight cover! Cannot seem to get them out?

Is there a way of taking the headlight unit apart so l can clean it out, or do l need to buy a new headlight unit?

If so what sort of price am l looking at?

Thank you for any information regards the above problem

Unfortainatly its a sealed unit. Best option is get new head light casing. Unless you want to try sepeate and refix it together.

Might be worth taking the unit out, removing the bulbs to see what you can get at by accessing the inside by these holes? You've not said whether the glass is loose or not. If it's melted on to the inside something like a piece of wooden dowelmay be strong enough to dislodge the bits without damaging the inside-you could tape some rag over the end as well to further protect the inside and look through the lens to see what your doing?

Welcome to Briskoda!

First things first, the headlight is dead easy to remove, no tools or expertise needed.

Follow this guide (if is for the pre0facelift but the procedure for your facelift is identical) and get the headlight into the comfort and warmth of your house...

Once the cap and bulbs are removed access into the headlight is actually quite generous. A good shake and a wooden spoon with some cotton wool wrapped around the end should give you a good chance to remove the worst of it!

Thank you for the replies,

Have taken the light unit out and blown bulb, managed to get rid of 80% of the glass inside the light, by the use of long screw driver and plastic cable tie!

Looks quite bad, well does to me, but am a bit OCD with my car and bike

Best ring Skoda tomorrow for a new headlight, and get the old one on the bay!

Hope this is not a regular occurance with the headlight bulbs! In 32 years of bikes and cars l have only had about 6 bulbs blow and none have ever done this!

Thanks again

Plenty of headlights on ebay i wouldnt want to waste money at a dealers.

Thanks Silver1011,

In my watching, just find out tomorrow how much new one is in comparison

Did look on ebay but must have put the wrong description in lol

I might be wrong but I think they're actually surprisingly cheap at the dealers. I was expecting £250+ but think it was £90 (unless I'm mistaken and that was ebay price after all )

Just don't let them charge you a 'fitted' price, obviously. Probably try to book half an hour or more to it lol

halfrauds are good at that scam too on a lower level offering to change your blown bulbs and changing more than the bulb to do it. Though judging by the general ignorance of the greater driving public I bet they have quite a high turnover :giggle:
