VRs MoT issue?

Featured Replies

Given the number of VRs which have/have had heavy oil consumption, I am surprised not to hsve heard of MoT fails because of emissions, probably caused by oil destroying the catalytic convertor. Is this likely?

Seat Ibizas were on the road before vRS. vRS first registered/available in the UK later on 2010

Emissions are OK, i have just had tested a 2010 vRS early.

Generous emissions test vRS due to been given higher road tax by the way VAG gave it '148' compared to the lower taxed/emissions GTi-A1. '139'

Just maybe one of them might struggle come their time..

There are high oil users with replacement engines where the owners should have been demanding new Cats IMO.

Get the MOT done '1 month' before the warranty expires. Not into a Skoda Dealer for the MOT.

If Twinchargers start failing MOT's on emissions the sharn will really hit the fan for VAG.

Didnt hit the fan for RX8 owners just mean horrendous residuals

Did there engines fail/expire before 3 years old or fail to pass the first MOT's.,

or just use lots of oil and provide loads of fun ?

george

They use oil as part of the combustion process and also suffer coil pack failures , hence they kill cats off with alarming regularity

Engine failures are not unheard of

With them Mazda in North American extended the Warranty of the cars from 2004-2008 to 8 years or 100,000 miles.

(so i read) Engine core, rotory, housing, gaskets, seals etc)

Something VAG might end up being forced to with Twinchargers.

I would not be accepting a new engine from VAG/Skoda without new cats or an assurance they would replace them if required.

& a 3 year warranty on the replacement engine.

george

wish i had you fighting in my corner George, all they've said they can do for me is offer a free service when its due :(

no ext warranty or assurance the CAT will be replaced should oil be its cause but they did say we often offer gestures of goodwill well after any warranty expires, words i know but hopefully words ill never need to test

Hopefully there will be movement on that.

Cases like the Australian Court action and if there are anymore.

It would be nice to hear anything official from Skoda/VAG.

Something must be afoot with the speed they are now replacing engines.

Bad publicity will be the thing that hits them worst.

Lets see how there Best Used Buy, Reliability Awards etc suffer.

JD Power surveys probably will not be effected by a few dozen Twincharger Owners contribution.

BBC Watchdog, Which Magazine & Motoring press might just get them shaking their arses and contacting owners.

Just not enough awareness yet of how VAG treat Customers and major manufacturing faults and issues.

Keep posting thread titles like VAG VW Audi Skoda High Oil Usage Engine Failure etc online.

Soon gets high up on Google searches etc. even when people are looking at buying new cars

The internet has more power than the Magazines.

I've seen plenty of older mark 1 Fabia 16 Valves get through the emissions test without any problems, given that they are legendary for burning oil and have already had 10 tests with mileages over 100,000, I can't see it as a problem for the mark 2 VRS

My old dear had an 9n3 Polo that drank oil - zoomed through every MOT.

Congratulations on a new scaremongering angle though - Seb will be fizzing he didn't think of it.

PS it's vRS

^^^ :D , shouldn't be any problem at all it will sail trough its mot

Yip :) .

Its well established that excessive oil or unburnt fuel can damage a cat over time , since the VRS can suffer from both its a given that some cars will have the lifespan of their cats reduced.

My suggestion would be remove it to keep it safe and just fit it for the mot;)
