New VRS Owner advice

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just bought a 56 plate TFSI VRS with 70k miles on it, and I'm just wondering what faults I should be looking out for if any or any work that will need doing soon.

The car was serviced roughly 700 miles ago, had the timing chain done.

The car appears to be on a variable service. I've checked the oil level, it's showing about 25% on the dipstick between min and max, is this normal? Should I top it up?

Brake disc wear is at about 1.2-1.5mm, these will probably need replacing in the near future.

Parts wise, where do you recommend I get parts from? Also this is my first car with some actual performance so I'm kinda worried I'll **** it all up by putting a terrible brand part on my car.

Any advice is very appreciated. Thanks.

congrats :)

firstly, we need pics!

My apologies. The only photo I have at the moment is this one:

Keep an eye on your oil level as these use a bit, mine uses half a litre every 2 months or so, if you use the forum code brisk25 on the eurocarparts

website you will get 25% off service parts and free delivery.

The timing belt is the big one but yours has been done so you should have no big problems on the horizon.

Make a point of checking on here every day or so you will find out everything you need to about the car.

Enjoy it and get out and drive it.

Check the sills they're prone to stone chips and rust.

check the inner edges of the rear wheels. The factory alignment means lots of cars wear excessively on the inner edges.

ABS/ESP module can be troublesome but there isn't much you can do about that, it'll either go or it won't. I think mine has just gone but I need to check the error codes to make sure.

[Edit] Euro Car Parts have been pretty good when I've used them. If you have a store local to you remember to click and collect or you won't be able to use the discount codes.

Hi mate.

I've new to ownership as well (3-4weeks in now). As above, couple of things I've looked into since ownership:

Check oil level - mine was ridiculously low and only a 'check oil level' light prompted me to check this

Check back wiper - think these are pretty renound for being tempermental. Mines already sounding a bit dodgy!

I would make sure you have fully synthetic oil available as it will use quite a bit (within VAG tolerances). I have been caught out twice on long journeys - the oil light coming on and had to pay premium prices.

Any recommendations on what oil to get? :p

Not had chance to read the manual yet, what does it require?

I've just topped up with the Castrol Edge 5W-30 stuff. Managed to get 4 litres for £30 on eBay. It's about £15 more expensive in high street shops!

Apart from the ABS module the Aircon compressor might go, both happened on mine. Happy motoring
