Coolant leak. Need help with part..

Featured Replies

Hi Guys..

My 02 Octavia TDi ALH engine has been losing a bit of coolant over the last few weeks,,and a mechanic had a quick look for Me.

He said it seems to be coming from the housing that's just below the brake vacum pump. I think this maybe the "coolant temp sender housing".

Would I be correct in that?? The mechanic only had a quick look,,as I dropped in unexpectedly.

I can't find a good pic of that part to indentify it properly. I even have a Haynes Manual,,but I can't locate it..

Any help would be most welcome.

Thanks.

Thanks mbames..

That seems to be it alright..The housing that the sensor is in,,where it's attached to the engine. It's slightly to the left,,and up abit in the pic.

Is there a proper name,,or part number for that?

It most likely it is leaking around the CTS and the CTS housing - there should be an o-ring in there.

I thought the housing was attached to some pipework rather then directly to the engine/block, but it has been quite a few years so my memory might be wrong...

Thank you once again mbames.

I'll get the mechanic to check it over properly later,,just to be sure..

I don't want to be buying parts that I don't need..So I'll get him to make sure,,and confirm that it is indeed the CTS,,or CTS housing.

And,,I want to put an end to having to top-up the coolant every few days...That can't be good.

It's very common on that part for the plastic to crack with age at the obvious weaker points. So it may/may not be just any seals.

Coolant flange. It looks like this

Probably just the seal that's gone

Ahh,very nice Frisco...Well spotted...

That looks very much like it alright.

Thank you.

Edit...When I check them on ebay...They say not suitable for the TDi engine.

Cheers Kandy..

I presume they are ok to buy off ebay,,or somewhere else online?

Or would I be safer looking to get it from the main Dealer?

The one I linked to on ebay is wrong coming up wrong. This one is listed for the mk1

Thanks for that again Frisco..

I thought it was a great price,,until they included £15.00 for the postage....Which makes it €26.00(Euros) delivered to Ireland..

I can get it main dealer here for €29.00 (Euros) .... So may as well go that route,,as I'll have it faster too.

Thanks again for all the help guys.

Try Sere motors (in Ireland), the Seat dealer first. Might just be cheaper.

They're in Nothern Ireland so a different country technically.

Sid where are you? I get stuff like this from Mullingar VW now I've found them much better than Autostation Skoda in Sandyford Dublin (although they are the only Skoda garage Ive bothered with so far)

Hahaha, I know this, but they are fast, and cheap, and used to dealing with us Skoda muppets.
