Possible CCM issues, help!

Featured Replies

Evening to all,

Firstly apologies if this has been covered somewhere else, but there doesn't seem to be a straight answer to this issue, feel free to redirect if there is!

I have a rapid but intermittant clicking noise behind the dash in the driver's footwell (i.e sometimes it clicks fast, other times not at all and all is well).

Symptoms of this clicking:

1. Flashing of interior lights, regardless of whether I switch them on with the switch on the dome light, or I open a door or boot.

2. Intermittent availability of electric windows (i.e when you actually press the switch).

3. Intermittant availability of remote central locking (especially annoying when carrying my 11 month old daughter)

Sometimes the car is fine and everything works, other times everything works intermittantly, other times not at all! There's no real pattern...

What I've tried:

1. Fuses- Have checked and replaced relevant fuses to be sure, no difference

2. CCM- I have had this out of the car and looked inside, all seems nice and clean with no corrosion. The harness connections to the CCM seems clean too.

3. Relays- All are fine, although not sure whether this makes any difference or not anyway!

Any ideas what else to try? I thought of diagnosing the electrical system to see if there are any fault codes, but Skoda dealer wanted £30 to do this! Cheekily asking, is there anyone around Rugby/Coventry that has the capability to look at fault codes? Happy to exchange a bit of cash or beer for the privilage!

Many thanks in advance

The main CCM is mounted under the dash - is this the unit you have removed?

I would suspect the problem is either the loom between the drivers door and the car, or water ingress into the control unit in the drivers door, or maybe a failure (but very much less likely) of a microswitch in a lock assembly.

Hiya thanks for the info. Yes it was the ccm I had out (checked the part number).

Will get the door card and pillar trim off in a spare moment to check the condition of the harness and door module, thanks for the tip!

Good luck! My car is suffering from something minor - the internal lights stay on all the time - but given the cold weather I am not inclined to chase the problem down. Initially they flickered on once or twice when I was driving and now they are stuck on all the time - I just switched them off via the switch in the light unit in the roof lining.

I suspect any door which is opened fully is likely to put a greater strain on the loom and might cause issues - so it might be the door you load the daughter in through (but again, less likely).

Well I took the front door trim off today and connector was as dry as a bone!

I've worked out a little more info...

1. Ccm clicks when any door is opened- door open light flashes on dash.

2. When doors are closed with ignition off clicking stops

3. Clicking continuous when ignition on, regardless of what you do

4. If you switch interior lights on at dome switch with ignition on, interior lights flicker in time with clicking. Switch lights off, clicking stops

5. No courtesy lighting delay, lights flicker briefly.

6. Mirror adjust works fine at all times, both mirrors.

7. Electric windows on any door work in time with the clicking.

I think I may have narrowed the issue down:

When I press the lock/unlock button inside the car, it intermittently fails to lock/ unlock the tailgate. All other doors lock/ unlock without issue. Using the remote from outside, you can hear the tailgate solenoid working, but only partially in some cases. I will spray some WD40 in the lock this week and see what happens- if nothing, I guess there could be a microswitch fault in the lock which means I will have to replace the lock unless anyone else has any other ideas?

The CCM thinks that a door or the tailgate is intermittently open.

There are connection points behind both of the lower 'A' pillar trims. Both are subject to corrosion, so I'd start there. Next check the tailgate wiring and the wiring between the front doors/'A' pillars.

Pete. Did you manage to sort this in the end? Interested as I have an almost identical problem with my 2001 seat leon. Very grateful for any advice you can offer! Thanks.

PS My car doesn't have a/c, so would it have a ccm?

Yes it will still have a CCM unit, as that deals with the central locking, electric windows, etc.

Thanks for clarifying that. Does the ccm incorporate a relay, as the clicking I'm experiencing sounds very much like a relay. I've yet to start stripping out the dash for a proper look, but have found a complete set of mk1 1.4 16v relays on eBay, so hopefully ill be able to rule them out. The ccm looks like it might be a more difficult beast to track down though...

Hi guys,

After plenty of investigation, I narrowed it down to the ccm. Tried changing the relays and that made no difference, tried stripping down the driver door to check that (seems to be a cause of a lot of issues).

To get to the CCM (if it's the same place as my Skoda, it's a little bit painful). Remove the under dash cover (the one surrounding the pedals) and remove the fusebox from the side of the dash. You can gain access from both sides, however it's still really fiddly to take out. This was the source of my clicking though...

Thanks a lot for the update pete. Since our symptoms are virtually identical, I'm guessing mine must also be a ccm issue. Did replacing it resolve all the other issues? And was the replacement ridiculously expensive and/or hard to find? Thanks!

Any chance a microswitch can knock all out or is that fuse or unit?
