Is there speed limiter on Superb 1.4 TSI?

Featured Replies

I searched the forum but i could not find any relevant information on this issue. I wonder whether ther is a speed limiter on our car and if there is speed limiter at which speed?

Thanks for replies.

The top speed is not limited by Skoda. There are two speed related functions, the first being a winter tyres warning which is set using the MFD. This will cause a bong and a warning on the MFD if you exceed the set speed. It doesn't limit the actual speed, just a warning. Second option is cruise control which will hold a fixed speed, if you press the accelerator and release it it will return to the set speed.

It is possible to lower the speed limit of the with VCDS, this cannot be undone though!

The biggest limiter is going to be the 1.4 engine.

Hardly std… or a Superb though is it.

Doesn't matter - 1.4TSI can surprise you :sun:

So, as i understand from the replies there is no speed limiter. It is interesting becasuse when the car was on dyno it did not pass 214 km/h.

Im confused by your post. 214km/h is over 130mph so thats about right isnt it?! A limiter is something that usually somes in at a certain point in the upper rev range - this can differ by country but I dont see your issue at all?

The Škoda Superb brochure states the 1.4 has a maximum top speed of 201 KPH, so it seems you have done well with your 214 KPH

There is likely to be a speed limiter on newer engines, 1.6CR has one.

Search for "static maximum speed limit" and similar fields in VCDS engine->adaptations, not user changeable, would take a remap (or perhaps some login code).

More details here.

On a straight or downhill autobahn stretch, 2012 1.6CR Roomie hits the limiter very quickly, even though it's 5mph over brochure stated top speed. You can actually cruise at 185-188km/h GPS even over small hills, but not any higher speed.

Speed limiter was introduced instead of just rpm limit because recent cars come with very long gearboxes for fuel economy at speed, and apparently it would be too much temptation to remap and increase top speed significantly (as if remap could not shift the speed and rpm limiters as well).

Maybe the actual point of the post was to indicate that the car had exceeded the manufacturers speed limit?! ;) And my guess is you'll never actually see a true 214km/h from that car on the open road against any sort of wind resistance anyway.
