Autopark - only half a good idea?

Featured Replies

Dorothy The Duvet Thief and I were ad Dobbies where the local Volvo dealership had a V40 and a V70 on show, I looked at the V40 just to satisfy my curiosity about the stupidly high boot. Salesmonkey came over and was giving it all the spiel. One of the things he said was about the autopark only needing 10cm more than the car to park it.

Cracking! I know several cars have this. However, I have found a rather large fault with this.............

How the hell do you un-park the car????? If you had to use autopark to put it into a gap that's only 10cm bigger than the car, you're unlikely to be skilled enough to get it back out again! :o :o :o

Salesmonkey couldn't answer that one.

There's also the parking skill of the people you've ended up being parked between to worry about too! Or if they open their boot into you or something.

Exactly. I'm a pretty confident parallel parker, and can slot my car into most spaces with just a few cm's to spare.

However, lately I have been passing on quite a few tight spaces simply because I don't trust the abilities of the other drivers.

That's a very good point, never thought about getting out!

The Skoda Park Assist is pretty good on my Yeti. I have never yet had a problem getting out.

You are right about other drivers. My car has been touched on at least 2 occasions when people have been parking or getting out of parking spaces, and not necessarily small spaces......

It can get slightly 'fooled' if the cars you are parking in between are not parallel to the kerb though, and may end up a distance away from the kerb.

I use it most days in London.
