Hello all,

I have had a VRS for 4 months now and have had to top it up with oil twice aswell as a service in between with a full oil change.. Ive done about 4000miles since owning this.... There are no oil patches where i park though..... Is this normal?

They do have a thirst, there's plenty of threads about it. Does vary a lot between individual cars (apparently due to how they were broken in at the start of their life)

I broke mine in very carefully, Since learned they use less oil if you trash them, consequently I could have my oil light on before its next service

Some use more than others mine uses 1-2l every 10k. Yours sounds high but nothing unusual for the engine.

I use about 750ml every 1000 miles. No running problems- car made good power on last RR. No smoke etc.

I just live with it.

Same using about a litre for every 1k. Just buy a big oil off the euro parts and a funnel and keep in the boot. I once got the oil light on 100miles from home at 3am and eventually found a shell garage that was open. Keep in the boot and check it weekly.

Same here. Keep a litre in the boot and check oil at every refuel. This method hasn't let me down yet!

Now owning a Ford Turbocharged Direct injection engined car, it does not use any oil at all. The engines are similar by design, only the Ford has both cams that adjust where as the TFSI has only the intake cam that adjusts. It makes me wonder why the TFSi engine uses so much oil.

Maybe I am just lucky but my petrol vRS has hardly used anything in 12000 miles. I check it religiously every week. I did break it in "very gently" when I bought it new last year

Seems they do vary alot. Mine seems to be reducing with the miles. At 20k it was using a litre every 3k miles. Now, at 40k miles, it's using a litre every 5k miles. Perhaps, after 5 years, I've finally bedded it in.

Seems high compared to my old 1.8T which barely used anything.

Mine got ridden like a rodeo bull when it was new. It uses very little oil.

TFSI, uses NO oil in between 6000 mile services,done 65000 miles. Often gets ragged.

Adding my experience: used about 5-600ml in 7000km, so I guess about 1l in 10.000km. This is stock. I'll be chipping it the coming weekend, curious if that'll change anything.

 

As a comparison, my 25th anni golf drinks no oil

Mine uses about 1l between services. which i do yearly. (aprox 6k) It gets its legs stretched most days if you know what i mean.

 Except that I too was very careful with mine (from new), and it has hardly ever needed any top up from one service to another. I have heard that there can be huge differences between the same VAG engines for this and that it appears to be pot luck whether you end up with a thirsty one or a camel!

Mines using way too much... it was topped up the max line at my last service at only 2 or so weeks on (doing over 1000 miles), it's 3/4 of the way down to the min :(

After revo stage 1 it used about 500ml in 3000km, making it 1.5-2l every 10.000km. Weird, but such is life...
