Outside odours

Featured Replies

Hey All,

Long time lurker, first time poster!

Of late my '06 Octavia has been letting in outside air even though the a/c is set to recirculate the interior air (the recirculate air symbol is lit). It's particularly annoying because I can't prevent unpleasant or unwanted odours from entering (smoke, other vehicle exhausts, etc.). I don't know where to start looking.

Can anyone help?

For those who may come across my post I can help by posting what I've found out!

My first idea was that whatever allowed external air inside the car was stuck open. Viola, I found this video on line (sorry bout the long URL):

The Recirculator Flap Motor wasn't working.

After disconnecting it, prying open the motor

housing and pressing the a/c recirculation button, it started working again with the same exact buzzing as in the video. When reassembled the flap opens and closes as intended but with the mildly annoying buzz. NO MORE SMELLS!!!

I'm wondering now if I'm to replace the motor or just live with the buzz!

A belated welcome to Briskoda, and well done fixing the fault. :) Is yours a Mk 1 or Mk 2 Octavia?
