Battery Light fails to come on when Ignition is ON

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have Skoda fabia 1.4 diesel. 54 plate. Today morning when I switched on Ignition I noticed Battery light flickering on meter with a tick tick sound (just like a relay switching ON and Off) from inside dashboard.

After few Minutes Battery warning lamp fails to come ON completely. .

I changed Battery two weeks back. But when Halfords tried to change they broke the screw that holds positive terminal. They did tight it for now with kind of tourniquet, I was driving the car on this condition since last two weeks

Does any one tell me what could be the problem?

Thanks,

Arun

Have a look under the battery cover. Are the Positive (+) and Negative (-) leads attached firmly?

If leads not tight, there'll be problems starting and one terminal will get hot. there's only one other fitter more hamfisted than a halfords fitter -thats a Kwak fat brake fitter .

when you pay someone to fit a part to your car if they damage something it should be repaired to a satisfactory standard. tying the battery terminal is not satisfactory and especially if it is the positive lead can be dangerous. At the time a new clamp should have been put on the battery lead.

as for flickering is everything else on the car functioning correctly? it could be a different fault causing the problem for example on my vrs the passenger side map light blew and caused the dash back lights flicker..... soon as the bulb was replaced all was sorted and been fine since

I forget to tell you I used to hear clicking noise when i turn the ignition ON ( not in cranking time).more precisely I observe this clicking sound only when i turn ignition ON for fist time ( not on immediate switch ON and Off state).

Thanks,

Arun

Check battery voltage at idle. Should be above 14v showing the alternator is charging battery.

A common fault on the entire vag range is the alternator load sensor wire to snap (runs over gearbox below battery tray)

There are 2 cables, one supplies the battery light on the dash, the other can cause the car not to charge below 2.5k rpm

As the battery light is out assuming battery is tightly connected i suspect you have a snapped cable
