Forthcoming changes to Company Car tax rules for the next few years

Featured Replies

I spotted this earlier and thought it was worth a separate thread. Apologies if it's been mentioned before.

As most company car drivers are aware, your tax bill is influenced by the emissions level of your car, and for the past few years there's been a 1% rise for each banding every 12 months, pushing people towards fuel efficient cars.

In 2013/14 that will continue with a 1% rise.

In 2014/15 that will continue with a 1% rise.

In 2015/16 there will be a 2% rise

In 2016/17 there will be a 2% rise, *but* the 3% diesel surchage will be dropped as new cars will all be EU6 compliant, effectively meaning a 1% fall for oil burners.

This is potentially going to affect people picking a new car that they'll be driving for a few years, though if the government changes in the mean time it's anyone's guess what we'll pay. "More than now" is probably a safe bet though.
