I don't think my car likes me anymore

Featured Replies

Heya,

Just wanted to see if anyone's experienced this before. I drive a Fabia Monte Carlo 2011 1.2TSI.

Today, when I returned to my car after work and unlocked it. Before I'd even got to the car to open any doors the alarm went off. Loud, proud, in the middle of a busy street. Very embarrasing, someone threatened to call the police because he thought I was trying to steal the car (has to point out to him that I had the keys, etc etc).

Anyway here's the funny thing. I couldn't turn the alarm off. The indicators weren't flashing, just the siren. I tried locking it and unlocking it again. Key in the ignition. Starting the car (alarm just kept going). Even tried putting the key in the door and turning it. Nothing worked. Till about 5 minutes of assuring people that I did own the screaming car, a cop turning up to check I wasn't breaking into it, then the alarm finally stopped and I drove home.

Then it gets weirder. I parked up, locked it. Then waited a moment before unlocking it again - expecting it to scream at me again. It didn't. So I locked it and went inside. It was only a few moments later when I peeked out the window that I noticed the indicator lights flashing as if the alarm was going off again - but no noise. So I walked outside. Unlocked it and re-locked it and after about ten seconds it did exactly the same thing. Tried locking it with the door, turning the key again... etc etc. It seems to have stopped now... but I have a bad feeling its going to do the same thing tomorrow.

Tried using the other key, too...

So, anyone else had this/know what the hell I can do about it.

ps, I did ring my Skoda dealer and they seemed utterly clueless...

I did accidently post this in the wrong section earlier, how do I make that go away? ;(

Water may have got into somewhere it shouldn't have. Or one of the controllers has just had a meltdown. A scan with vcds should show something.

Is the alarm a factory option or was it installed afterwards?

Seems to me that the installation is causing a short circuit.

If that is not the reason then the battery might be going flat.

call to skoda assist? they seem to fix many things like that more effecently than dealers

First off, check the battery terminal is not loose.

I had this problem with my Mercedes a year ago, only thing that stopped it was using the key to lock it and not arming the alarm, they didn't have a clue either

You can pull the alarm fuse while you're waiting for it to be diagnosed to avoid further embarrassment! The owners manual should have a fusebox diagram.

Give the boot and bonnet a slam too, and the catches a good spray with WD40 or similar. They both have sensors linked into the alarm. It does sound like an electrical gremlin though, good luck!

hi, i have had this happen to me twice! i also drive the monte but derv! the 2nd time I called skoda assist out. The chap arrived, ( think he thought i was an idiot) and asked for the keys as if i was wasting his time. After him locking and unlocking for about 5 mins he started slamming all the doors and boot. eventually he disconnected the battery to reset everything. Then he told me he thought that water had got into an alarm connector in the boot and if it happened again to return it to the dealers for a new lock fitting on the boot as the seal must have broken? not had and more troubles as of yet...

Saw your alarming comment in the Superb thread. Same thing with my Superb when new. Alarm would go off during the night in a closed garage once or twice a week. Skoda dealer downloaded "fresh" software from the mother ship and hasn't been a problem since., Some months ago started thinking that maybe they had tricked me and just turned the alarm off so I triggered it by opening the bonnet and was happy to hear the siren!! Hope you solve your dilemma as easily as I did!!
