You don't say whether you're looking at petrol or diesel. I had a 2006 until recently - just traded it for a 2012 version. From my experiences with the 2006 diesel model (PD engine):

- Turbo - if it sounds like you've got a police car following you, it's possibly the pre-death whine of the turbo

- ABS sensor failure - a common affliction for VAG cars of that age fitted with a particular Teves ABS unit. It will probbly have died by now and shoudl have been replaced.

- Fuel injectors - should have been replaced under Skoda recall

- Diesel particulate filter - a problem on the PD, particularly if you do lots of short journeys. Has it been replaced or removed?

- Rear washer - don't expect it to work! Worst case when it gets blocked is that the pressure causes the feed pipe to detach and you get washer fluid in the boot

- The timing belt should have been changed at least once (60,000 miles or 4 years)

You should check the service records and look for evidence of work done/replacement parts.

As well as the above,id be looking for a full service history, check the rear tyres for wear on the inside edges as a 4 wheel alignment may be required,on a 2006 it may not have 18" alloys, rear electric windows & climate & jumbo box as these were optional extra's around this time,as for been thrashed id see how the owner drives it from cold, does he let it warm up before driving it like a vrs should be driven, also check for any rust/accident damage as well as general condition inside etc.

Hi there mate.

I was in the same position you were in a while ago and last month bought a 2006 vRS petrol. I made a long thread, which should answer pretty much any question you have. You can find it here:

Hope this helps!

Mines an 06 with 18s but no jumbo box. If you buy carefully all should be good. No issues in 2 years, just make sure you watch the oil! If there is mayo under the oil filler cap, take it for a long drive and it should disappear (just condensation apparently). It's a cracking car overall and I would only change mine for a newer one!

What StuartB said plus check the sills for bubbling and rust. Most of them will have it you just need to check how bad.
