Alloy touch up paint for 18" Neptunes

Featured Replies

Have had a bit of a search and not really found much, what is everyone using as touch up paint for the Neptunes? I seem to remember some sort of VW silver??

Hi

I have used VW Diamond Silver in the past to good effect. Seems a pretty good colour match.

Make sure you put some laquer on too.

Have read here its an Audi code of L1 H7.

Another vote for Diamond Silver - it's pretty close for touching up.

That's good to know for future reference :)

I've also used VW Diamond Silver in its Halfords aerosol form. I had the wheel off, cleaned it thoroughly, lightly sanded the scratched area with wet and dry paper till very smooth, masked the tyre and sprayed the damaged area lightly with several coats, going a few inches beyond the scratched area, and with half an hour between each coat.

(Silver has very good covering powers).

Then went over it with two or three light coats of Halfords Clear Lacquer aerosol. Can't tell the difference from original finish. Sounds a bit involved I know but easily done on a warm afternoon - when we get them!

As above closet colour is Audi L1H7, by far the brightest silver out of a tin. The others mentioned are close but no cigar.

Use white primer on silver, makes it look much brighter. Most factory painted wheels only have a thin coat of silver and lots of clear coat to give that bright silver finish. On most if you look in between spokes etc. You can see the primer is only just covered with silver.
