I don't think the fact the dealer charged for changing the fuse is the problem. The fact they even plugged in a computer for a non working power socket is a joke, regardless what a customer told me when I started to train as a auto sparky when I left school the first place I would go is the fuse box for any problems like that. The dealer fitters will know the problem with the fuse location card on the box cover, so to go plugin in a computer is a joke.

Plugging in the diagnostics is not a waste of time

example: If headlight washers are fitted and during a cold spell they can freeze up which causes an overload and the fuse blows. This leaves a fault in the circuit which is picked up by the diagnostics.

also if the power is cut to the radio it will also leave a fault which then tells you there is a problem there.

1st thing to do is check are the fuses

That's what I said, check the fuse first. Then no joy you have a real reason to plug in the computer.

FUBAR, hear what you're saying, but losing a few settings is better than faffing about going to the dealer, not to mention being charged for the job.

Oh God aye and that's how I handled it, just shouldn't have had to do it that way. Some poor sods with absolutely no automotive handiness (like the stereo typical little old lady) will end up paying for a car with incorrect literature then paying again to get something sorted they may have been able to follow manual for otherwise.

I do wonder if the OP tried contacting Skoda UK would they recognise the issue and perhaps refund his associated cost or offer a voucher... There is even a part of forum to highlight such issues and SUK can be informed about the fact it has been highlighted on Briskoda too (they do know we exist now).

TO all those know it all's out there , A 3 Year Warranty is what it says 3 Years , and before you all get on your High Horses DON'T bother , ask your selves what if you were working away for weeks at a time and her indoors NEW CAR had an electrical fault , would you say to her " don't bother it will go away , i think not , for her safety you insist that she take it back to the supplying Dealer , You see not all of us like to tinker with our cars , not all of us have the knowledge , Myself i am a Central Heating Engineer / Plumber and have to turn work away ( year round ) I ask myself why do people not repair their own Plumbing ? You get the gist , i doubt it

Nice to see that you offer your service FOC to a customer you have never met before.

Just thought I would add to this as I had my car in at Audi yesterday.

I pointed out that the 12v power outlets did not work, and more than likely had blow the fuse. Could they look at it for me.

I'm more than capable at changing a fuse but was curious if they would charge me for it (especially knowing about this thread previously),

Anyhow, car back and new fuse fitted. Invoice states 'fuse replaced under warranty' :)

fuses are not warranty, unless there is an underlying problem with the electrical system.

The fuse was probably changed FOC as a goodwill gesture by the Audi dealer. As there was more profit on your car than the budget Skoda

Agreed Eddie, I know it was probably goodwill. I pointed it out to them just to see what the outcome was.

don't think so. Laura (the service assistant) was excellent and very helpful, I know she had many options available (in terms of charging) for the fuse replacement. She obviously wanted me to come back :) I have many services ahead in this new car.

The other point is that you had booked the car in for a different matter, so easy for them to look at the fuse issue at the same time.

With regard to the price charged, I agree it seems fair. With regard to the fuse layout chart provided in UK models, it is perfectly reasonable that an owner merely checking off that would not instantly realise its wrong for the specific car. In another thread I started I mentioned mine was the mirror of what card said and that despite that the numbers didn't match up what is in the owners manual in any way shape or form, others have similar aged cars that are different again.

Had Mr Ree been given the correct literature for his car as he did try to follow it, he would have identified the problem and not gone to dealers in first place, it is a shame. Perhaps an email to Skoda UK on the matter and a scan of invoice might get you a tenner back.

For mine I took a pic of the card and fixed it specific to my car, for the symbols anyway. Stephen Hawking wouldn't be able to decrypt the numbers from anything Skoda supplied me with.

The Skoda diagram is right Fubar although I agree a little awkward to understand as it is a mirror image of the fuse box itself.

Bulbs aren't included in the warranty either, but my dealer replaced a blown brake light bulb without charging me whilst in for service.

It may be a little thing to some people (along with the fuse) but its these little things that make it more likely that I'll return for another £100+ service.

If my local indy charged less than the main dealer but charged for the bulb I wouldn't think any less of them.
