front wheels lot of play?

Featured Replies

hi there i was having problems with my 2 front wheels 4 of my friends said it could be the bushes or wishbones that need replacing, but when i took it to the garage they check it over and all it needed was a droplink? the mechanic says the bushes and wishbones where fine? but everyone i have seen they all agree that there is far too much play on the wheels? is it safe to drive and what could it be if the garage says its in great condition and will pass the mot? thanks stuart

Put the car on full left lock and look at the bush on the drivers side, if you have a tear top and bottom like the photo below then you need new bushes. It is very unlikely to be the wishbones.

Drop links are £16 a pair (non genuine) and as simple to replace as a wheel is to change, you'll need a jack, a stand and a socket set. Loosen the wheel nuts, jack the car onto the stand, remove the wheel, undo the upper and lower droplink nuts and jack the base of the ball joint up till the ARB is in position for the droplink to slot into both it and the upper mounting. Torque to spec and re-fit the wheel, tighten the nuts then torque to spec.

It really is that easy :)
