Octavia Vrs - Paint stripping from discs/hubs :(

Featured Replies

I was just washing my car, and noticed the painted is basically washing away with the soap on the discs. Only 2yrs old as well now it's going to look naff :( and suggestions?

There is no paint on the discs or hubs. They are bare metal.

The hubs do get a light coat of sealant / grease on them out of the factory but this very quickly washes off.

Some seem to fare better than others, there have been a few cases of people complaining of unsightly corrosion through the alloys.

There are a few threads where people have painted them with silver Hammerite...

It's not just a VAG thing either, your car might have been sat at the salty/windy docks for a few weeks...

Well at least I now know this wasn't done at the factory. I know BMW fit Nordac which are manufactured with a coating to stop surface corrosion

On my mk1 vrs, I painted the disc rotors in green Hammerite to match the callipers. No issues with heat so you could paint them with silver or red Hammerite?

Yup, got a few tins of the OLD, lighter shade of green hammerite in the shed: Skoda green! :)

I'm doing mine black when I have the wheels off for the refurb. Look exactly like the pic above at the moment!

Silver hammerite spray ftw

A friend of mine works for a automotive supplier, and has access to loads of goodies including top of the range paints by Spies Hecker and De Beer :)

I'll get an epoxy primer and alloy wheel paint in silver, which should sustain some punishment
