...but I think I am about to get a Skoda again -an 06 1.9 TDI Ovtavia. Question is, is the engine of the older PD TDI type or the newer common rail diesel? And does it have a diesel particulate filter?

Thanks

The 1.9 PD105 TDi is a PD engine.

A very good engine. Well respected for longevity, durability and reliability.

No DPF on the 1.9 either.

The newer 1.6 CR105 TDi engine is common rail (CR).

.......and does not drive any where near as well. Go for it -- I have 2 Octavias, both with 1.9PD TDI engines. They are bullet proof, with many taxi drivers on here reporting mileages well in excess of 200k miles.

Good friend of mine is getting a company car, and selling his '06 Octavia with 85,000 on it. He's had it from new. Was thinking of getting a fiesta, but this seems too good to miss. Likely to get it for less than £3k as well which seems OK to me. I know these are good engines, we have one in a Passat which clicked over to 205,000 miles this weekend. If it were the CR I would think v carefully as I have not heard good reports of the early ones. Thanks all for the advice.

Added bonus of course is that I will qualify to use this excellent forum again!

85K is still low miles for a 1.9.

Go for it you won't regret it :)

The 1.9 PD is a belting engine, mine's on 70k at the moment and often returns 55mpg. Looks like you'll get yourself a good buy there. Go for it, you won't regret it.

Take it easy - 85k means it's not run in yet!

3k's a fantastic price, just get, it even if you did'nt like you'll always get you money back

I done 79k in my 1.9tdi pd Caddy and absolute peach of an engine

Just picked her up - drove back 100 miles through snow no probs, filthy inside and out, needs a new battery, needs cambelt replacement, MOT due in a few weeks, and a dodgy earth on the rear light cluster but bargain price of £2,750!

Anyone know where the earth connector is for the n/s/r cluster?

Pics shortly...

Congrats on your steal. Change the oil and filter regularly and it'll last for ages.
