Power!

Featured Replies

Hi folks

I'm looking to make my VRS more powerful and I was wondering could I just upgrade the clutch to cope with 360ft/lb or will I need to upgrade the flywheel too?

Thanks jack.

Standard flywheel wont last with that torque!

When going for big power you really want a decent clutch and single mass flywheel setup

Recommend single conversion or duel mass?

Single mass

Single mass definately!

Go for a helix clutch and single mass flywheel!

I used the organic clutch plate but if your doing drag racing etc go for a paddle clutch

Best place to get them from is mardigras motorsport

yer single mass, duel wont last long with that torque. single mass does "chatter" tho but thats cos there isn't much there to damper the sound from the gearbox

Great! More expense! Lol

Cheers guys

Helix and smf will set you back £900 plus fitting

Darkside Developments sell Southbend single mass flywheel and clutch kits. They are a little more expensive but they are 'silent'.

Iv heard darksides "silent" dual mass on a few cars and it varies on how loud they are but its safe to say there def not "silent" lol :D

..def quiter than other lightened singlemass flywheels tho :)

Shud have used a 5 speed box like mine.. then u can fit g60 solid flywheel + vr6 clutch for less than £200 ;)

Yeah but then you have 5 gears and the g60 clutch can't do big power

Vr6 clutch ;)

G60 flywheel

Depending which vr6 clutch they can take over 300bhp..

Thats what the 20vt petrol boys use ;)

G60 flywheel is bullet proof..also the 5 speed is still quiet after the single mass conversion..

Basically the only bad point is motorway cruising u will have slightly lower mpg compared to 6 speed because of the higher revs..

VR6 clutch and G60 flywheel setup in my old Ibiza 20VT, huge improvement over stock, and cheap to do as well.

I miss that car.

Yeah thats petrol power!

Probably struggle with high torque of a diesel

Like i said u can get different vr6 clutches organic/ paddle etc... spoke to darkside they do loads all of which can and will take as much as there 6 speed clutches ;)

They have an organic for £300 that takes over 400 pounds of torque.. and i picked up a used g60 flywheel for £50..

Contrary to opinions on here there are lots of different ways to skin a cat ;).. if u think outside of the box.

Also if i ever wanted to get a 6 speed box i can use a touran 6 speed from the 1.9tdi which is the same box as a 5 speed with an extra gear on the end so can be used with the g60 flywheel/ vr6 clutch combo.. :)

Im not overly fussed about a 6th gear but if i went down the touran box route i still wouldnt have much more than £650 in the box + clutch + flywheel.. much more cost effective ;)

+1 for both missing cupra and the g60 set up

is it possible to do a 5 speed box swap on a vrs?

is it possible to do a 5 speed box swap on a vrs?

You can but ud have 2 change driveshafts + g.box mounts.. i wouldnt bother if i had a vrs with a 6 speed already.. but mine is a 5 speed just pointing out the advantages ;)
