Whilst gazing out of the window at the supermarket earlier I managed to get a good look at my race blue Blackline parked in the car park and realised that against the blue paint and black wheels, the chrome surround of the radiator grill looks a bit awkward and out of place.

This now makes me wonder whether I should look at changing the colour of the surround and to what - either race blue to match the paint or black to match the wheels and trim - or should I just leave it as standard?

Any views from you out there are welcome (as are any photo's of various grill colour schemes)

Mat black ftw

My profile pic only a little bigger :) I hope you make the right decision! Badge on mine since changed to the new style one.

That goes really well with the green :)

I think Race Blue should have Race Blue grille.

Race blue

This may be my next mod.

But I cant decide, do I go for matt black or Black Magic to blend in...

Hmm...

Def colour match it in Race Blue.

I'd always colour match the grill on a MkII as the top part of it is just too wide.

Yep, race blue.

Race blue.

If you find any matching wrap let me know. Want to do mine too! (race blue)

Picking my '09 plate pre-FL up in 2 weeks and was wondering about doing something similar myself...but thought about spraying the grille blue and leaving the surround Chrome...also wondered about doing something with the lower grilles below the bumper ???

Has anyone done either/both of these and can post some pics, please ??

Well I voted Black - my first reaction to the question - however having scrolled down and seen Fubar's picture - I'm thinking Colour Code it.

Only thing that would put me off that is black can be wrapped - not sure you could wrap it Race Blue.

On my list for my Race Blue vRS as well - lose the chrome.

Is this paint mate or wrap? (on the octy)

Easiest way is just to buy a spare grille and have that painted.

I had mine done Race Blue- ordered the grille and got it painted before the car was built and had the dealer fit the colour-coded one before we picked the car up.

Chrome just looks totally out of place on the vRS IMO.

There was someone who had done that- looked terrible in my opinion! He liked it though- he had his own website detailing loads of how-to's etc. I can't remember the link but I'm sure someone will.

Gotta be black on a blackline....although I do also approve of the colour coding approach as well.

Both Grille's are painted. I done them both myself using the Race Blue rattle can from skoda And Halfords Black spray paint. Both are Octavia's

How is the paint holding up on the grill - any issues with stone chips ?

Both have held up pretty well. Mines is coming up for 2 years now I only have the one stone chip right at the very bottom but it's easily fixed. The black one is about 1 year old with no stone chips

Blue if it was mine mate :)

Still undecided. The blue is definitely the most popular choice and I can see why, that said I can also see an appeal about colouring it black in keeping with the wheels and grills. I might have to bodge a temporary colour (bit of paper dangled over the grill or something) just to see them both from a distance to see which I prefer.

black is a lot easier than blue.....plasti dip requires very little prepare and even less skill!
