Cruise Control...........?

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I have been working on my Fabia 2001 estate 1.4 Mpi.

I have been doing lots of bits and bobs.

My main question is can you just buy the Cruise control stalk and unit and attach it to any model and does anyone have any experience in this.

Cheers

The cruise stalk comes with wiring which connects to the brake pedal switch, central electronics ecu and to an engine ecu connector which is in the bulkhead (awkward as hell) then requires activating using vagcom or at the dealer. But yea it will fit to your motor if its got electric adjustable mirrors because that means it does have an central electronics ecu. Hope this helps :)

Does your car have central locking factory fitted? If not you need to include the cost of the kit and a new central convenience unit. £58 new on eBay, about the same used. You don't want to pay the dealer for the part as it's not cheap.

Yeah my car has the mirrors and central locking. Im not so good with electrics. Any ideas on cost to fit at a garage or dealership if I supply the part?

Cheers

going rate seems to be about £180 to supply and fit ive found.

i bought the kit through my work at cost price and fitted and activated it myself for £45 :) ftw...

I dont think a 1.4 mpi estate would be able to maintain the speed req for cruise control :o

Unless you drive around in 3rd with cruise control incase you encounter a hill :o

Having fitted the cruise myself I read plenty of documentation on this before proceeding, and read somewhere that it wasn't advised on 1.4....might have even been the standard instruction / installation recommendations

Very bad idea IMO .....what Jase says /\ ...its a no brainer on the vRS and should be okay on anything 1.4 16V upwards but really pushing it on the 1.4MPI

I'm not sure I buy this "1.4 mpi too slow for cruise control" theory.

I used to have a Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 3 cylinder. One of the slowest cars I've owned and certainly slower than a 1.4 mpi. It could easily maintain 70 mph under any motorway conditions....even if it did take a while to get there.

So I'd say the MPI would be fine with Cruise Control.

Slightly surprised at the reply if I'm honest but it's wrong. It wasn't advised to fit it to the 50bhp 1.0 mpi (found in the EU) and 54bhp 1.2.

The 1.4 mpi is 68bhp vs the 1.4 16v with 75bhp but as the mpi develops peak torque lower in the rev range at 2.5k (120Nm) and 70mph is reached at 2.9k in 5th vs the 16v at 3.8k (126Nm), either way it's capable enough for cruise on all but the steepest of hills.

Yeh! F**k all you 1.4mpi slaters!

Mine has no problems reaching the motorway speed limit(s)

ouch lol

Yeh! F**k all you 1.4mpi haters!

I wouldn't quite go that far but it wasn't the best advice I've seen posted.

I was joking, hence why i had the  ,

I'm sure I ready it was ill advised but maybe I mistook it and it was the 1.2 lol

As for poor advice. putting money where the mouth is has anyone actually owned a 1.4 8v and fitted cruise and can actually recommend it, rather than assuming from theories etc?

where's best/cheapest for supplying and fitting?

Preferably in east/midlands area?

Thanks

Awesome gti in manchester £120 all in

Had a look on their website. Says £249 for ibiza mk4 and fabia

Jesus wonder why its different to a mk1 leon :o

daylight robbery haha. Been thinking about it recently as I do a lot of motorway miles so would help really.

You misunderstand, it wasn't a theory or an assumption, just like ABS and the trip comp mpi's can and did have the lot fitted, Skoda sold it as a £175 factory fit option. The only 1.4 mpi it's not recommended for is the 44kw/59bhp version, good luck finding one of those that was legitimately sold in the UK and the grey import market was hardly thriving for LHD low spec Skoda's with even lower spec engines.
