Hi all,

I was driving the Fabia yesterday when a rattling noise started coming from the engine bay. I had a quick look but couldn't see anything caught in the belts or in the fans for the rad so I got the family home as quick as possible so I could have a proper look.

When we got home I popped the bonnet open and saw something loose and resting on the skid plate/rear of the splitter, problem is - I cannot find anything with this part number when searching online and there is nothing mentioned in the Haynes about it.

Any ideas what it is, or where it's come from?

(VW) 600 805 971 G

>PS/PE/PB

It's looks like the front most bit of the air intake to me.

Is it part of the air intake system? Connects the air box to the back of the grill?

Thanks, I'll have another look at the intake system and let you know how it goes.

Is definitely the slam panel cold air induct. Should be held on by two screws. Someone has pikey chopped it up though so i'm guessing its missing the snow deflector too. Just grab a new one from a breakers or ebay.

Hello again, I've had a proper look round the engine bay but can't see where this has detached from. Are there any posts with a picture of the location?

The thing that now worrys me is that it's probably been rattling around in there for a while. We took the car to a different garage last year in the summer to get a new radiator fan fitted and when it came back the headlights had been left disconnected. I had a quick look at the time but couldn't see anything else amiss and we opted to never use them again since. It did get through an MOT though... The mind boggles.

Just had a look while on my break at work. I have the rigid tube to the airbox.

The original mounting plastic is still in place but has just been snapped off...

Last question then I'll let this drop. There is a small recess in the intake piece - is this to allow a radiator hose to pass through?
