In urgent need of help :/

Featured Replies

Hey guys..

at the minute the car is jacked up cause im trying to change the pads, but i cant get the compressing thingy to budge so the caliper will fit over the pads.. ive tried to use a clamp to compress it with the engine OFF but it simply wont budge, i pressed the brake stupidly and now its came out even more..

Any help is much appreciated, sat on the drive atm ready to throw a hammer at it :(

cheers

fronts should just push in. Rears you probably need a caliper rewind tool.

You need a piston compressor for the rear - wind them in, also remove the brake fluid cap and cover with a rag as it will **** out if you start getting vigorous with moving the piston back in.

Assume you mean the rear, with the cap off the front shouldn't take much pushing back

Bloody hell we just hit a post pile up with the same advice lol normally it tells you when a reply has been made

Definitely need a rewind tool for the rears.

so he needs a rewind tool then

Whats one of them  Nah he needs a thingamejig, definitely works every time

Nah its the fronts guys :/ ive used a clamp and they just wont budge at all..

Have you tried cracking open the bleed nipple when you try and push the piston back in?

I havent a clue how to do that mate :/

the bleed nipple that should be hiding under a little rubber cap sticking out of the caliper, you just to loosen it off with a spanner but you will need something to collect fluid that comes out. Also they can get gummed up and you can strip them or snap them off.

If i did that would i not need to fill it up again with brake fluid? I have mo mechanical skills what so ever.. i tried taking the cap off the fluid resevoir and still it wont budge

big water pump pliers , mole grips , g clamp any thing like that to push piston in ... but only push it back a LITTLE bit at a time as you dont want to damage anything ... they may be stiff but will go

Im currently trying to use like a plastic pump g clamp thing and it just wont work, maybe i just aint strong enough haha..

You may find it easier if you just take the cap off the reservoir. It should just turn, I couldn't get my hand in as theres not a lot of room, but my lass could, she did it.

Does turning the key once release some pressure from the brakes? I seemed to remember I had this issue with the fronts when I was changing them but I did something (as per instructions I had) and it released itself easily..

you taken lid off brake fluid reserviour

too slow

Possibly lol.

if you have no mechanical abilty then seriously step away from the brakes.

otherwise, try removing the fluid reservoir cap and crack the bleed nipple slightly, you wont lose much fluid and wont need to bleed the brakes if you are careful

You could always tell us where you are and I'm sure someone on here with mechanical knowledge my be close by and come and help you for some beer tokens

Good luck

Regards Whoosh

Sometimes they stick... I've had to remove them from the car and put them in a vice to push the pistons back... It usually depends how far out they have gone. Metal to metal pads is bad since the piston is all the way out and at its maximum travel.
