iPhone 5 Vs Nokia Lumia 920

Featured Replies

Hi All

Im sorry if someone has posted this before.

Im looking for the next upgrade, currently have an iPhone 4S and tbh i love it, i would't be dishearted to keep it for the foreseeable but always keen to see if theres something better.

Obviously the iPhone 5, which as far as im aware its just mine with a bigger screen on the face of it, nothing revolutionary.

The Nokia, my partner is keen to get one of these and i have not had a Nokia since the the 3330..its been a while so i have some reservations about it and if ill gel with it like i did the iPhone. I went from Android to Apple rather reluctantly and though id hate it but its the best phone iv had (for my needs) and obviously why the 5 is appealing.

Other tipping point is phone contracts, seems like im going to Orange/EE due to coverage where i live and the Nokia is £41 a month for the package i want with a £30 upfront charge for the phone, abit more then what i wanted to pay but is it worth it? The Apple is £36 per month with the phone coming free..literally dont know what to do..

Apart from the slightly shortage of apps on the WP platform I can't see a problem. Even more so that WP8 does not rely on Zune to syncing.

fwiw: I have a WP7.8 device (started off at 7.0 and applied various upgrades over the last 18 months of ownership).

One of my work mates has just purchased a 920 (he is on a O2 PAYG tarrif of someform). He seems to really rate the phone. I suspect my next phone will be another WP based device, just have to hope that MS keep supporting the phones and this isn't a flash in a pan for them. Don't let people tell you that WP is based on WM (Windows Mobile), as it isn't. It is a ground up build, and thus is a bit like the iPhones in their early days - some features were missing (not actually aware of what is missing in WP8 as I don't have one!)

If you own other Mac products then the sensible way forward is the iPhone 5 with synchronisation for Calendar and contacts etc..., but the iPhone 5 is more of an incremental upgrade rather than a brand new model and I don't think it's set the industry on fire.

If the 4S is your only Apple product then go for the Lumia 920 and it's completely new and will offer a whole new user experience for you.

Whatever you choose, you'll be VERY happy with it.

I have a 820 Lumia and use to have a iPhone 5, personally I'd have the iPhone 5 all day long. The 920 was too big for me and I have large hands, hence why I got the slightly smaller 820. Its a nice phone, does most things well, feels nice and well built, but it does fell a little behind apples ios in some areas. Not only that, from the replies on my latest windows phone thread support for windows 8 will be dropped next year, so thats worth thinking about, could end up being a pretty paper weight by then. I'll stick it out with mine for now, but I think once apple bring out the next iPhone I'll swap.

Support for wp8.0 might be dropped, but I suspect that will be updates will be released (8.1, 8.2, etc) which will continue to be supported further into the future.

I stayed with the iPhone.

I like the thin & light iPhone 5. Many people say that it is only an incremental change, but I disagree. The form is very different. It feels different. It feels light!

I have a Power Support Air Jacket round mine, which adds about 1mm al round. It is much better than the case for the 4/4S as it covers the top and bottom as well. Not widely available in the UK yet, but the best one I have found for my needs. (As are their screen protectors)

I went from the iPhone 4 to the 4S and now the 5.

If it were an incremental change, why do none of my iPhone 4/4A stuff fit the 5? Not even my leads?

(I now have a redundant TomTom car kit)

The iPhone 5 is the best iPhone yet.

The size is perfect for me. I can't cope with huge phones.

I can still operate the whole phone with one hand if I want.

It syncs with all my Mac's.

When it is time for my next upgrade I will check out the competition. But I have 18 months to go  and that is a millennium in the mobile industry.

I will chose whatever is best for my needs at the time.

I use mine for my own business, and tether to my laptop most days. LTE is awesome where there is coverage. I'm on EE's 4G service.

I use it quite heavily and will get about a day per charge. Always charge it overnight.

It has never let me down. Yet ()

Sent using whatever device I'm using at the time.

If it were an incremental change, why do none of my iPhone 4/4A stuff fit the 5? Not even my leads?

mmm, because Apple realised there was a captive market and by changing the connector it was a good way of making lots more money....

Support for wp8.0 might be dropped, but I suspect that will be updates will be released (8.1, 8.2, etc)

Not seen anything to say this is happening tbh

Windows phone 8.0 support ends on 8th July 2014.

If previous versions of Windows phone are anything to go by, later versions if there are any will not run on some hardware.
