grille pics

Featured Replies

I have a race blue octy. saw yesterday a fabia with a black grille and liked it. not sure if black is a bit much on mine.

anyone got pics and/or opinions of grille colours for me?

ultimately plan to paint alloys to match as they have been excessively curbed by previous owner :(

was going to get another grille somewhere in case I didn't like it and can swap back.

I went for black and did it myself with plasti dip. Looks good but if it did it again I would wrap it as the plasti dip is already lifting on some of the edges.

carbon wrapping appeals, is it reversible if it doesn't look ok?

only thing with wrapping is the wheels will need to be a diff colour I guess

Yes wrapping is reversible and does look good. Plenty of posts on here about wrapping grille and colour coding it.

just had a look. carbon 'effect' in diff colours as well. hmmm, is white a bit too much. I like the light grey or just blue, as long as it matches. cheap for a meter piece too.

looks like its a wrap :D

if that appeared in my mirror I would crap myself and move over! Looks mean. Like it!

It will look better with tinted headlights soon lol. Legal ones of course.

Wrapping it easy if you just apply lots of heat and take your time and use decent vinyl. That was my first attempt and it took a few hours but was worth it.

Headlights got vinyl on? If so what was used?

I kind of thought that it would be impossible to match exactly and would prefer slightly darker than slightly lighter

I suppose darker would be more subtle than something that's lighter. Makes sense.

Its fly eyes. Dont bother its rubbish. I took it off as it really affected the light output and it left an annoying residue too.

How easy is it to wrap a grill? Going to get mine done. Tried paint - rubbish and plastidip seems a bit pricey at £20 a tin can't be faffed with the spraying (nowhere warm suitable to do it).

where is the best place to get the honeycomb grile in black? im fussy so would have to fit as good as the genuine item

It's very easy if you take your time. Many hours and much patience is needed. You also need a heat gun to warm the vinyl to stretch it into the corners and bends of the grille. It's worth the effort. Just take your time with it. Buy decent vinyl too not cheap stuff that will burn and year with the heat. I used 3M carbon vinyl. No issues at all with it.

Many hours? I'll take it to the wrapping place down the road from work and get them to do it then!

Yep, 3M is the stuff I've been looking at. A lot of the other stuff looks really thick normal sticky backed plastic stuff that should be used on Blue Peter, not my car!

Yep took me about 3 hours to get grille off car separate the chrome part from black part. Remove badge and wrap and put all back together. I did in the summer last year so had the BBQ on whilst i sat at the table with the grille lol. I don't thing the neighbour was pleased at me swearing a few times lol.

I just did mine last week and agree with Gregie. It was a lot more forgiving than I thought - I just cut out a rough template and worked bit by bit. A heat gun/hairdryer is essential as it involves heating and stretching around corners. If it doesn't look good, peel it off, heat it and try again.

I had a very poor result with Plastidip despite all the recommendations elsewhere and, whereas painting looked good, it was a lot of effort to really key the chrome back, prime and paint and the stonechipping was awful after a while. 3 hours beginning to end seems about right and although it may be a bit of time, I think it will be about the same time as painting and a better long-term result.

Edit - I used some non-3M stuff off off eBay which seemed good quality from the ad' and worked out all right!

Where are you gents sourcing your 3m vinyl. I ordered some off eBay and just got a massive sticker through the post! Rubbish!

eBay lol. Item number 251146010311 I've just ordered some more.
