Alarm going off in the middle of the night

Featured Replies

Morning guys,

These are probably really stupid questions but I've just been dragged out of my bed 4 times by the car's alarm going off for no reason that I can see (It's 3am - my neighbours are going to love me!) and I can't find my manual.

Car is an 06 Fabia Mk1 VRS

The first time the alarm went off I didn't get up as I only woke up after it stopped so wasn't sure if it was my car.

The 2nd time I unlocked the car, opened and closed the doors and boot (didn't do the bonnet tbh) and opened and closed all the windows.

The 3rd time I unlocked the car and then locked it with the fob twice (I'm under the impression it disables part of the alarm system).

The 4th time I have disconnected the battery.

I have a couple of questions,

1. How do I lock the back doors without central locking?

2. Are alarm activations recorded in the car's ecu and would a dealer still be able to retrieve them once the battery had been disconnected/reconnected or are they cleared from the system when the power is lost?

3. Are there any real obvious issues with the fabia's alarm that could be causing this? I have a quick google any couldn't find anything, and I've never had any issues before.

I'm guessing it'll have to go into the stealers but I don't know when they could get it in and I really would prefer not to have to pay a massive bill at the moment as I'm slightly skint.

Best checking all your door locks work correctly.

Also the wires in the door hinges (can split after many years of opening + closing the door)

Way to check door locks is open 1 door at a time (including boot) + observe the "door open" light on the dash. This shud light up when each door is open and there shud b a constant beep telling u its open.

If the door open light doesnt show on one door. Then either that door lock needs replacing or a wire too that door lock has split (in the hinge area).

There is also a posibility that the bonnet switch could be faulty.

If all those checks show nothing then yes dealers and pressumably VAG-COM can read what caused the alarm to go off which will point u in the right direction :)

It's probably the internal sensor detecting air movement in the car. Sounds daft but it's been covered before on here. Mine used to do it in the summer after a hot day (so not very often) when it got cool at night. I don't have the vrs anymore so no manual but from memory pressing the key fob once only activates the door alarms. Twice also activates the internal sensor. Try this and see if the alarm still goes off.

Hi guys thanks for the help.

I'm wondering if its the battery as the car did a couple of short runs yesterday but sat all week before then.

Car was originally locked with one press and then tried two presses to no avail.

I've also found my one touch windows now don't work as I have to hold the button on the door down to drop the window. Could this be because the battery was disconnected all night?

I thought it was one press to turn it all on, two to disable deadlocks or something? (Been ages since I had my Fabia, and the Polo has a different system.)

To lock without arming the alarm though, use the key in the door lock.

The window thing seems right - to reset it, with the windows at the top of their travel, hold the switch in the up position, you should hear a click from the motors. Once they've clicked, the one-touch should be enabled again.

I think bonnet sensors used to be a cause of alarams going off in winter, but I can't remember.

Right. Just had the local garage on the phone, they've tested the battery, door, boot and bonnet switches and scanned the ecu and can't find any issues. Even though its been going off in their car park.

However they're just a local place doing me a favour (can't get into a skoda dealer this week within 20 miles of Edinburgh and the local vw dealer claims they can't read Skoda ecus). Going to a VAG specialist on wed to try and sort it out.

I'm still not sure about the battery. Tempted to get a mains charger and try topping it up, it'd be handy to have one anyway.

The vag specialist suggested pulling fuse 60 until I get down there to kill the siren, wouldn't want to explain to my insurance tho.

doesnt the alarm have a seperate power feed? i know previously i have locked the car with the bonnet open and disconnected a battery lead which set the alarm off.....

Also cant you make the alarm more or less sensitive with a switch under the interior light ?

I'm hoping I've (touch the table with is not exactly but supposed to look like wood) sorted it.

I bought a battery charger last night so left it on charge for a good few hours. It was only when I was disconnecting the battery charger I noticed some of the small leads running off the main terminals were needing tightened.

I can't tell if it was the boost in charge or the terminals but I didn't get woken up last night.

Thanks for the help guys

Iain

I've just had this... turned out to be an intermittent bonnet latch.. That thing does see some weather.

Have you noticed the single light flash not happening when you've been locking?

Try removing the connection on the back of the bonnet latch mircoswitch. It works in reverse, as in.. when it's closed the circuit is broken, so pulling the connector off makes it think the bonnets permanently closed. The other thing you may have noticed if this IS the problem is your intermittent wipe not functioning all the time?

Just to update in case anyone else is searching for this. I seem to have fixed it by tightening all the battery terminals up.

Cheers guys.
