At the weekend if wired up my 2nd battery to my vrs. The battery is a XS Power D3100 (110ah and max output in amps is 5000).

Normaly if the car was left for more than a few hours when starting it would try to turn over but nothing then try again and it would fire and run no problems. I left the car for 8hours in total that day and when turning the car over after fitting the 2nd battery it turned over so quick it was like the starter was plugged into the mains.

Think this is another example for the battery not being man enough for the job?

5000 amps!? Why do you need 5000 amps to power a 400 amp circuit?

As the 2nd battery is for ICE installs I suspect that peak current output is to give headroom for a serious bass transient (know in ICE circles as a burp) in to achieve high peak db readings in a vehicle.

I'm an SQ man myself but some of the extreme db cars are amazing feats of construction / design with one aim.

Are you sure Ryan means a 2nd as in two batterys present Paul or does he mean 2nd as in this is the 2nd primary battery he has fitted? As he does make a reference to the starter circuit.

Usually in a large ICE install you have a split load / charge setup, so if the ICE is used a lot for demonstrations and competitions, with the engine off, you only run the 2nd dedicated ICE battery flat - the primary battery is always available to restart the car.

So not 5000 but 1360CCA, when a large Exide EA852 maintenance free car battery already has 85Ah / 800CCA, and a smaller one 77Ah EA770 has 760CCA.

You need true ~350CCA to start the car. For ICE, XSPower it may be a good battery, but an overkill if you just want the standard car

OE batteries are doing under 500CCA when new/fully charged and that's a bit on the low side, especially a few years and an incomplete charge down the line.

And Ryan are you sure it's 5000 amps and not 5000ma?

100%. 5000ma is what you get from a 18650 battery for a torch etc lol

I dont think anyone would buy one to use as a normal starter battery.....if you did you have more money than sence lol

the XS battery is in the boot in addition to the standard battery.

A battery like that is needed with 7000wrms of amplification in the car, as GTI Jazz Blue said, its for SPL application. I know most people here aren't into audio but I didnt expect those reactions lol
