No supercharger on 1.8tsi just a turbo

This is true. TSI stands for turbocharged stratified injection. If it was turbocharged and supercharged it would be closer to 250bhp!

Errr.... The 1.8TSi is turbocharged and supercharged. Hence the name TSi lol

Skoda only do one engine to my knowledge with a supercharger, and that is the twin charge 1.4 found in the vRS Fabia which has 180bhp. A supercharger coupled with a turbocharger.

Oops, sorry. I stand corrected. I thought it was the same as our Cupra.

I had some good test drives this morning and think that the 1.4 fits the bill for me. The 1.2 was great on the local roads but quickly run out of stem when overtaking or accelerating at 70mph and lacked the power that I would need

The big surprise for me was the 1.8; I was really looking forward to this but was amazed at how little power it had (coming from a vrs at least) and I wouldn't be able to justify the running costs for the level of performance on offer. The revelation for me was the 1.4. The extra torque over the 1.2 is noticeable as accelerates of the line that not quicker and had the power to allow overtakes in 6th gear and pull it through 70mph.

Can anyone confirm how much differently the 1.4 behaves in the yeti compared to the Octavia?

On my test I couldn't really tell that much difference between the 1.2 yeti and the 1.4 yeti.

Neither could I - but I guess I am a fairly 'conservative' driver! Anyway I wanted DSG so as to leave the car to sort out what gear it wanted to be in at the speed I elected.

I guess it comes down to how you apply the power or what you expect from my he engine. There is nothing wrong with either the 1.2 or 1.8, but the 1.4 had the little bit of extra grunt making motorway driving or overtaking better for me.

As mentioned, the 1.4 was an Octavia, but so was the 1.2 that I drove today.

How do people think the drive in an Octavia differs to the yeti?

I had 5 octavias before the yeti. The octy is a big motorway mile muncher. The yeti seems more agile on twisty hilly back roads. I miss the octy on motorways but am seldom on them

How many miles were on the 1.8TSi that you drove. Mine was disappointingly sluggish for the first 3,000 miles - to the extent that I even questioned if I'd actually got a 1.8. But then it started to loosen up nicely, and by the time it got to 9 - 10,000miles, it was a different car.

The octy I would agree is the mile muncher, I did 60k in my last one. There is nothing wrong with the Yeti build quality, but the octy was miles ahead. Then again in 2005 skoda wasn't quite there yet.

I prefer my 2010 Yeti elegance over my previous 2006 L &K Octavia.

The Yeti is a great motorway mile muncher, but the faster you go the worse the fuel economy. Seems to get steadily worse over 60mph.

The Yeti is a bit brick like.

It is great for keeping your licence. :lol:

Unless you have a 350bhp 1.8tsi. :lol:

It was a year old but I didn't clock the mileage but it may have been tight still. I have no doubt that the 1.8 is good, but I get better economy and performance out of my vrs, so I'll be keeping that for weekends and will go for a 1.4 yeti for commuting and family life :0)

Agreed, which is why when doing big trips we'll take the golf rather than the yeti. For the driving I do now I prefer the yeti. If I was still doing lots of long drives I'd take my Octavia any time

I would expect a 200bhp petrol 2wd vRS to feel faster than a 160bhp 4wd Yeti. (In the dry :lol: )

Thanks for all the input, have just ordered a 1.4 with a few options as this is best suited to my needs.

Now for the wait!

I should add that I ordered 1.4 SE Plus spec with ESC/ESP (can't believe that that is not standard!), Panoramic roof & Heated windscreen in Muscavado with the FOC Erebus alloys.

I'll be keeping the Octavia VRS as backup
