New wheels for Furby vRS today!

Featured Replies

Fuby went into the dealers this afternoon for some warranty-action. He had sadly been affected by the "white spider of doom" on all four wheels  .

Mentioned it to my dealer at the 2nd years service the other week and they agreed to replace all of them with new ones under warranty, no quibble.

Very happy with the speedy customer servcice and car returned all washed and shiny  .

Was easy to get a Citigo courtesy car for the afternoon too.

Lets hope these ones last abit longer! Although having said that it'll likely be a problem for the next owner as I doubt I'll still have the car by then.

White spider of doom? Exactly what is it? Some sort of corrosive damage? Or a fault in the manufacture?

I have the exact same wheels. But I do live in Australia so if it's weather related we might not suffer it???

Moisture tracking in from a defect in the clear coat, I think. Called the spider because it looks like a squashed white spider - have a closer look at the "before" shot by the wheel nuts.

I had Dark Chrome wheels from 2010 replaced that had White Spider.

These replacement wheels from about July 2012, now have the outer Coating peeling off in big flakes,

and thats without any White Spider showing on them.

(White spider was between the Alloy and first coat because of a porous coating, sometimes damage to the outer coating

or moisture coming from the Centre Bore or stud holes.)

Best check wheels now after a few weeks or months of low temperatures.

Pics to follow of the new wheels peeling when its possible to get them.

This is what you get at the Back of the wheels from the reaction with the Hubs.

Best get the wheels off if they have not been, checked and some Copper Slip Applied.

Same White Spider on these as Furbytoms.

*It is not only Dark Chrome wheels that need the inside of the wheel checked,

any of the Alloys can end up near impossible to get off.*

Must have a good look at mine when I put them back on in place of the winters.

The hub is awful, I ended up with one wheel stuck on when I had a puncture last year. Have aplied copper slip liberally since then.

Nothing better than a helping of a good lube :)
