3rd brake light mod..?

Featured Replies

So I get a bit fussy when it comes to tinkering with lighting especially brake lights. I cant help to think what would it look like if the fabia had a wide 3rd brake light. So something along the lines like ones off the Audi A7 -

imo it looks fugly on the A7 but I think the point of it was to make the car look wider and lower.

I know a couple on here wired up the flashing mod onto the 3rd brake light. I guess I just tap the power from that to a strip of led's which are suitable..

What's the regulations about 3rd brake lights? I don't really want to be crossing too many lines.

personally i cant see why you would want to do that it would make you look like a **** but each to their own i suppose you could use the a7 light remove the fabias original light and just stick the new audi 1 to the back window and plug it in

you'd also have to modify the trim somehow as it's wrapped around the LED cluster.

The point of the long LED clusters found some of these cars (I think) are meant to make the car look smaller and lower. Looks.. well the A7 doesn't look v nice with it. I seem to remember a Mercedes S? and a French mpv had similar length of brake light and they seem to suited the car better, though im not sure why? Google images isn't helping either :drunk:

Speculative at the moment, it really depends if I can find one I like for the right price (not going to dump stupid money on it).

In terms of fitting, I may use the plastic surround to help hold the new one in (trim bits off and slide it through). Again it really depends what I can find :) I do prefer the solid bar look rather than a strip of individual LEDs.

tbh i think you should just buy an led strip and go all the way round the rear window :)

So you want the car to look wider and lower when you are slowing down?

The Bentley continental has a similar brake light to the A7 and looks crap so I can only imagine that a Skoda would look epically crap!

Googles still not helping me.. But..

Personally I think this looks alright (2014 DS3). The fabia lines makes the rear bumper look a bit wide, thinking a wide brake light will even out the look a bit (similar to the above). Looks, well.. no idea yet. I tried photoshopping it but its not giving me more info visually.

I think it looks ugly on the A7 and the continental is because of the long boot. Least I hope thats the reason...
