New steering wheel?

Recommended Posts

Skoda really are a shower in terms of Marketing, aren't they? I mean, the configurator shows r/h/side buttons if you spec-up a vRS, but doesn't show them if you spec-up an SE... however both pics are of the *old* steering wheel anyway, not the new 2013 one.

Plus, the brochure talks about 'MFSW for radio and telephone' but the configurator says something about 'module for radio and telephone' i.e. the former is more ambigous and likely to confuse/ miselad.

Whatever, it doesn't look like any Fabia owner is going to get r/h/side buttons, so the question I asked above stands: can someone please say what you gain/ lose on the stalk if you pay the £165 (bearing in mind that I don't currently have a Fabia, so I don't know what the stalk should do anyway). Thanks.

Well, i do not know how is the spec like in UK but I have looked into the web and found out that the fabia MY 2013 in PL got the gsm and mfsw in standard as well as the climatronic, maxi dot. Last year I had to pay extra for it in Elegance.

jaydash according to your question, with mfsw yoy can answer the phone from the sw or tune, change volume in the radio. Without it you have to answer the phone with the button on wipers switch.

Skoda won't do anything, as it does what it's supposed to apparently.

Even though the configerator shows a wheel with an extra few buttons you're not supposed to get any, frustrated but not really sure what I can do.

There's a piece of Consuer Legislation treating about mis-advertising products i.e. providing misleading/unclear information to the customer at the point of making a purchase. I'd follow that route if you want to.

So did Skoda explain what the £165 extra was for then? As you have just got the standard vrs wheel with the phone prep.

Thanks, but what I was getting-at is this: if you pay for Tel. Prep/ Bluetooth (£240 on vRS, £340 on SE), but don't pay the extra money for the MFSW with Tel prep (but you DO choose the lesser UK option of '3-spoke with MFSW for radio'), how does the phone functionality work with the stalk etc?<p>It looks to me like all Bobnaldo has got for his £165 is one extra button on the left-hand-side of the steering wheel which allows him to answer calls.

But what I'm asking is, presumably there'a button on the stalk for that anyway, and Bobnaldo still has to do his phonebook scrolling on the Maxidot using the stalk, so effectively all paying that £165 has done has stopped him having to move his hand 2 inches away from the steering wheel when answering calls = not worth it?<p>

The "wheel button" also works as voice activation button. MFSW comes as standard on vRS. The only option I could choose was GSMII prep, which I went for but telephone buttons. I'd expect £165 telephone buttons option to be separaqte buttons on the right hand side of thw wheel as everything else is already there...

Jab, I'm still confused (I'm an inteligent guy, honest!), so seeing as you have the config that I'm talking about (i.e. you have MFSW for radio, the same as I'd get on a vRS or would pay £300 for on a SE) and you paid for Bluetooth/ Tel Prep, could you please tell me *exactly* what you can do with your stalk and also your steering wheel buttons? That would be very helpful, because I've never considered voice control before now.

I just want to be clear what that extra button that Bobnaldo has actually does. As an aside, as a potential buyer of an 'SE', the difference in cost between the 3-spoke with MFSW and the telephone wheel is only £20, so it's an extra button for just £20... not such a rip-off as Bobnaldo experienced.

in my opinion - get a GSM II and then get a MFSW from superb or octavia to install instead of the standard wheel.

I do not know how is in UK now, but the Elegance version in Poland comes with 4 spoke MFSW and GSM II with Maxi - DOT as standard in MY 2013.

In vRS you still have to pay 140 GBP for MFSW with telephone and radio, or at least 60 GBP in Monte version.

I`ve paid 100 GBP for the MFSW with dsg paddles from superb II. I guess that the prices in UK are bigger but they still might be cheaper than buying it in dealer shop/

After work I will check out one thing - if I can end a conversation with the "wheel button" on the left side of the steering wheel as I am not sure, I think I can. Then I will check if big "arrow buttons" do anything regarding phone functionality, I do not think they do.

Oherwise the right hand stalk does the following. If you press and hold the "down" rocker swtich type button on the side of the stalk it will go into a menu and you can choose among others the phone where by using the same rocker switch you can go between option, inc. phone book, and conifrm your choices with the "OK" button on the "underside" of the stalk. I use the "wheel buton" for volume, ending conversations and accepting calls and activating voice control, which I use exclusively for calling :)

siekla, how do you wire and code such wheel sfrom superb or octy? UK being rather strict and as it contains essential safety feature I was wondering if such a mod has to be approved by the powers to be?

Jab, the fabia - suprisingly - does not have the steering module mounted on the column as superb or octavia. The wiring is the same in superb, octavia and fabia - you have one plug for the airbag and the steering buttons. After all you have to do is check if there are no faults and that is it. You are changing only the steering wheel and keep airbag and wiring from your old steering wheel.

If necessary - you can do it via your dealer.

Jab - with MFSW wheel button in your fabia you can - mute the radio, answer and end the call. and of course change volume. Long press activates the voice control. The arrow buttons does not work with the phone.

With superb/octy MFSW - left side is only for the radio and phone volume. On the right You have an extra button on the right to answer/and the call and wheel button to enter, edit, scroll the menu, phone options etc. and one exit button to exit from menu.

/this photo can be seen full size/

02403118d381b315med.jpg

the red circle is the only plug from airbag and MFSW that you have to disconnect from the column - to remove the steering wheel. With this plug you also have two wires from MFSW.

the green circle - is the plug that you connect with female plug in the MFSW wheel / same in octy/superb/fabia/roomster/yeti.

Later on - I can post my full fabia coding from VCDS.

The functioanlity of the additional buttons on the right hand side of the wheel is accessible from the right hand stalk in my vRS.

OLD_wheel_zps811f7ba7.jpg

Old Wheel showing "wheel button" and "large arrow buttons". Does what siekla wrote above + can voice control my iPhone through BT

LEFT_stalk_zpse15c8887.jpg

LEFT hand stalk - does nothing for the phone or media

RIGHT_stalk_zps51f47f61.jpg

Right Hand Stalk - "OK/RESET" button on the "underside" of the stalk is a confirmation button for different option, including all the phone settings/options.

"TRIP" - hold the lower part down and it will get you to the main maxidot menu; clicking up or down gets you through menus including phone book, BT player, phone pairing all MAXIDOT stuff. The only thing I paid for wa the GSMII prep. I did not pay, as far as I know ;), for the steering wheel phone prep. I am not aware of being given any freebies and dealers like to bang on about them usually !

Hope this helps

Friends, I need your help... I wanted to retrofit my car's steering wheel with a controlled one and decided to buy a MFSW, so I bought a MFSW from Czech Republic (this MFSW: http://www.skoda-parts.cz/predmet.aspx?polozkaID=326 and this cable set: http://www.skoda-parts.cz/predmet.aspx?polozkaID=227  , item code : 3T0 971 584A ) Official car service in my country could not managed to get the controllers of MFSW work when they replaced the new MFSW. I have (2011 registration) Fabia II 1.2 TS? 77 KW and my car's stock steering wheel is not a MFSW, I have CC in my car and board computer as well, also my new BCM is 6R7 937 087H, but i could not get it work. Do you know what's missing? How can I use this new MFSW's controllers ? Any help about it will be so crucial and appreciated. Best regards

Just found this topic and...im a little gutted...

I have ordered a Monte Carlo Estate and spec'd Bluetooth and MFSW for phone/radio under the impression you get buttons on the left AND right of the wheel (as shown on the configuration and the way it comes across in the description in the brochure.

I went back to the configuration (just now) and they seem to have changed the pictures! it now does not show the buttons left and right but actualy shows buttons on left and looking closer there is a picture of a phone.

Bit mis-leading of skoda i think....

in my opinion - get a GSM II and then get a MFSW from superb or octavia to install instead of the standard wheel.

I do not know how is in UK now, but the Elegance version in Poland comes with 4 spoke MFSW and GSM II with Maxi - DOT as standard in MY 2013.

Could I add a mfsw in the place of an non mfsw for a 2011 fabia? Would I need a new control module and airbag wiring harness?

I'd be satisfied with just buttons on the left as I don't have maxi dot.

Advice please

hi guys I have a skoda fun pickup and the steering wheel is a bit shody so I have decided to buy a new one. I know this has an air bag and know how to get them on and of however I am unsure that if I unplug the air bag and change it will the airbag light be on constantly. or is there a way to bypass this.  thanks
