Wind noise problems

Featured Replies

Did have another topic for leaking door seals but thought I'd start a new one as the issue has now changed.

Car went in to have a whistling noise looked at initially, the dealers spent ages finding noises and in the end did something with the grille, mirrors and the drivers door. Good news is whistling noise is gone, bad news is there is some serious wind noise on the drivers door which sounds like it's right by my ear.

Dealers have had the car twice now, and to be fair I asked for my car back on Tuesday as I needed it for work, and they said they're still not happy it is resolved but for me to see what I think of it.

Well I drove to Cardiff and on the way back went straight back to the dealers, 3 1/2 hour journey with that noise in your ear results in a massive headache. Stopped at the dealers and the master tech came out with me and I explained all the issues again - other issue is to do with drivers seat which he agreed isn't right and will also be looked at. He did say no matter what they taped up on the drivers door they couldn't find the noise, and it might be that it's further back, maybe to do with the rear door/window.

Anyway car is booked in for Monday the 15th and this time I said they can keep the car until it's fixed.

Anyone else had this kind of issue and had it resolved?

It could be the rear quarter window, open the door, fold back the rubber seal around the inside of the glass and seal with silicon. Or ask the dealers to try looking there.

It's odd but mine only stopped after I sealed the inside, sealing it outside, rubber to paint, didn't fix anything. I suspect air between the cavity of the door is finding its way inside on the inside rubber seal.

Good luck.

Thank you for the info, I will mention it to them when it goes back in. Just my luck with cars :-S

Rear quarterlight is a known problem. Some of our job cars have had the same issue in the past.

Were they fixed at least?

Yep - under warranty. Just don't ask me what they did to fix it though ;)

I had a look around before the car went back to the dealers to see if I could fix the wind noise issue by following this thread;

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/117320-for-anyone-still-suffering-from-the-wind-noise-problem/

Tried it around the windows as per #26 but to no avail.

On Sunday night driving in the rain, I also noticed it was still leaking so it went in to Beadles Maidstone on Monday to look at the wind noise, leaking door seals, clicking on full lock and squeaking seat issues.

Called them yesterday for an update, they have so far fixed the seat - great as that was driving me mental. Apparently they have tried everything but cannot find the source of the wind noise - anyone on here have any other ideas or anything similar?

I have a Roomster as a courtesy car, and unfortunately we just don't get along lol. Can't wait to have my car back, just hope it will be before the weekend.

Has anyone been in a situation like this before, this is the 3rd visit the car has had to the dealers and they still haven't fixed it. At what point do they get Skoda UK involved, or if it isn't fixed by the end of the week shall I get them involved?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

It is apparently all fixed now :) but master tech was on holiday and is back on Monday, they wanted to confirm everything is ok with him as he was working on it before he went away - not got an issue with that. Cannot wait to get my car back - really not liking the roomster at all :peek:

Evening all,

I got the car back yesterday evening after them having it for 10 days. Everything is great, new window seals fitted, seat fixed etc so happy with that side of things.

I do feel a bit unhappy as well at the same time. I walked around the car and inspected everything as I always do and found two scratches that wasn't there before it went in, one looks like someone walked past the car and just caught it, should just polish out;

The other one I am a bit more annoyed about, it's on the front arch, but it looks like it has been filled - this definitely wasn't there before;

I pointed it out to the service person who immediately said that's no issue they can sort it, so it will go back in to have that done.

The other question I have is, how many miles would they have had to drive the car to test for wind noise, etc? I ask because they did 90 miles - that just seems like someone enjoyed my car for a few days? I also think this because on the inside of the windscreen is sucker marks for a gps holder or something which isn't something I use.

Just wondering :)

I know that I am suspicious anyway, but the extra delay caused because their "master tech" was away seems like an excuse used to delay the return of the car, especially when you look at the damage on the second picture - that has been scratched by something and a very poor attempt at covering it up made - probably enough that most normal owners wouldn't immediately notice but we are all more enthusiastic about our cars than normal people and pay more attention.

While trying to sort out any wind noise problem, it is inevitable that a few miles will be added as the only way to check it out would be to road test it at a suitable speed - but I struggle to see how 90 miles is justifiable. The SatNav sucker marks on the windscreen are also a tell-tale that would indicate someone has been using your car as a runabout - how many techs need a SatNav just for a quick road test?

I would be complaining in some very strong terms about this.

Speak to the manager and their dealership manager. No way on gods earth do you need to do 90 miles to test that. Maybe 30 miles Max but that would be pushing it.

90 miles, bet they give your car out as a courtesy car.

FFS what are dealers like now. I'd hit the roof over that never mind the scratches.

Dodgy Del in the back street is looking positively angelic these days.

I'm fed up, everyone is covering for everyone.. but should have expected that.

Forgot to add that there are sucker marks on the window for a GPS or something - not sure why you need to have GPS for a test drive (I don't use anything like this). Also found more scratches!!

Have to hold my hands up and say the dealer has been excellent in explaining everything in the end. The 90 miles was done in 3 trips to a particular junction, and one trip to another junction which all adds up. They spent hours on my car trying to trace the issues with the leaking door seals and wind noise, and was pulling into lay-by's taping up a bit, trying again, etc.

The sucker marks on the window is where they had someone in to fix some chips in windscreens and noticed one on my windscreen so they had it done as well.

The scratches they cannot explain but they have agreed (from the beginning) to get this resolved without any issues.

After the call I felt like a complete idiot, as it is clear they were only trying to help and went out of their way to get the issues resolved - but all I was after was a proper explanation, if I had all these answers in the first place I would have been happy and would have left it there.

Anyway, just wanted to update as it's easy to moan and criticize but not so easy to say when you were wrong, or received good service etc :)
