6spd conversion

Featured Replies

Looking to change my standard 5 spd to a 6spd box. Any other bits i'll need?

Gearbox

6spd Gear Selector

New clutch and flywheel

Probably being an idiot but is there anything else? Its a 56 plate 1.9tdi elegance and im looking to go to a FJW 6spd gearbox

Driveshafts

Possibly hubs too

Hubs are the same.. driveshafts are different

Thinking on, Would i require a new starter motor?

Hubs will get changed in due course for brake upgrades :)

theres an ibiza pd130 box on ebay in doncaster ... not 2 far from you you may be able to get him to chuck some extra bits in ..... not sure on different box codes

Yup!

Its not really worth it what so ever!

Your 5 speed box will be longer anyways so you wont really gain anything except another gear change

my 5 speed box seems mega short. it tops at 125 @ 4000rpm

whereas my friends ibiza fr is good for about 145 in 6th, not sure what revs

and its more for clutches, there seem to be more available and more information regarding 6spd ones unless my eyes are in the wrong places.

and also motorway cruising speeds for economy

ive been on the bay, got my eyes on a few box's already :)

You still have another 1k revs there!

Thing is how often do you do 125mph??

i knoww, not often at all, novelty though :3 and me and few mates are planning a trip to the ring at some point, so autobahns and nurburgring stuff really. its just something i want to do

she doesnt like revving higher than 4k in 5th, would probably need abit more work, modification wise.

i know my brothers leon cupra tdi is geared abit higher than my fabia. his is standard, mine mapped to 140bhp

mine feel quicker lower down but just runs out of puff

edit: plus it a step closer to a full vrs conversion ;)

Would it not be easier to sell yours and just buy a vRS?

The higher top speed of your friends Ibiza FR might be down to the PD130 having more linear power delivery at the top of the rev range compared to your mapped PD100. So putting a 6 speed on your car won't really cure this......Or it might be down to the Ibiza's speedo over reading at high speeds!

Another thing to consider, is the diff final drive ratio the same on 5 speed/6 speed cars?

Have to agree and for all the work and cost involved in the real world not worth the effort

I like my fabia. Id have to buy the vrs, put my parts onto it then sell my car. Id rather just work with what ive got.

I never asked if it was worth it,because its worth it to me. 3rd to 4th is a bit rough on my box anyways. So might aswell go 6spd if i change it. I just asked what i needed :)

I can't see why people are putting you down!

If I had the chance to swap a 5 speed box for a 6 I'd go 6 every time! good luck with it :)

You want it, you do it. Good on you

Everybody likes to highlight the point that its not economically worth it, a d that i should buy a vrs. But its worth it to me :) i love my little fabia

lol this is abit like the replica thread again lol ...

Yeahh aha lets not go there

No one it putting the OP down....it's a free country, you can do what you like to your car.

But I'm just saying it like it is.........going to the (quite expensive) trouble of fitting a 6 speed box to a PD100 will, in all likely hood not cure the problem of his car crapping out at 125 MPH....in fact it'll probably crap out slower with a 6 speed.

Perhaps the cash would be better spent putting a PD130 Turbo, intake and intercooler on the car......this will work wonders with power in the 4000+ rpm range.

Its all in the future ;) the plan will be for power. However it wont be a pd130 turbo im fitting. If youre doing it, youre doing it right

theres a bloke in scunthorpe not far from you on the bay selling 2 nice turbos atm .... i am tempted with them being new at around the £600 mark + old turbo 130 hybrid and 150 hybrid which is around £750 mark

PD150 perhaps?.......I like it!
