is a 1.4 tdi 80bhp worth remapping.

Featured Replies

hello .

I bought a 2008 fabia 1.4 tdi 80bhp in jan and generally im really happy with her now I've got used to all the little quirks of the engine and the fact it is I miss the grin factor of my old golf tdi est that I had remapped.

has anybody had one of these remapped and was it worth it ,gut feeling tells me that 110 -ish bhp in the little go cart might bring back the grin factor back.id also be interested to know about difference in fuel economy and any issues from remapping ,most remapping shops also offer dpf removal, is that worth doing for a car that's used mostly in town .

cheers in advance for your input.

I'd guess around mid to high 90bhp.

Does yours have a dpf?

I can only assume so . honest answer dunno.

Apparently its good for 105BHP, and unless it is the greenline version I believe it has no DPF.

I doubt it would have a DPF, as I believe this engine is a PD one

The 1.4TDi 80 BHP in the 2009 greenline has a DPF and is a PD engine.

from what I can see theres no dpf and 105 bhp would have moe giggle factor and handy for towing the glamping trailer.

worth asking one or two of the tuning companies for a quote and what they generally go to as standard without going stupid

I think i read that audi ran these in the audi a2 tdi gt running at 130bhp but with a different turbo and no major dramas reported so anywhere between a 100 to 110 ish would do nicely . but it would be nice know someone's done it

108bhp seems to be quoted on some of the remap sites.

I believe the 1.4 uses none vnt turbo except for the 90bhp version that was used in the audi a2 which did.

Matt, well done getting the 3 pot 1.4. They are a briliant engine and quite robust. I had one for nearly 5 years without any problems but I kept it standard. I have, however, driven a 100bhp version that had been tuned. It went really well and importantly, the torque was up from 195nm at 2200rpm (the standard figure) to 225nm at the same revs. That's a nice amount. The guy that owned it was on this site some 4 years ago I believe but for the life of me I cannot remember who it was. Hopefully he will see this and respond. I would caution you about going higher than 100bhp if you are going to use it for everday transport and the general conscensus at the time was 100bhp didn't affect reliability at all and fuel economy actually improved slightly if you didn't welly it too much. Also, the amount of miles and condition of your engine may also be a factor in determining how much power to go for. You don't want any big bills too soon if you see what I mean. With reference to Audi. They did indeed run the engine at 130bhp but found it to be unreliable longer term so ceased using it in that role. The turbo charger used as standard is VVT. Good luck and let us all know what you go for if indeed anything!

Unit18 do it for £210+vat and said the turbos are fine because the garrett turbos.

Was thinking about getting mine done in the hope it improve pulling off from stand still and for the giggle factor.

Cheers dazz

thanks estate man .its not by luck I bought the wee beast I done my homework first and this site and others like it are worth their weight in gold. but I didn't see a bad word said about this model apart from "bit sluggish" and" bouncy suspension".but no real negatives .

as regards remapping ive seen eco remapps offering better fuel consumption and bringing them up to around the 100bhp mark maybe that is the way to go.i forget my old golf was 100bhp standard but wasn't by any means shabby.(till I remapped it)

cheers
