Will this device read codes and reset my warning light Fabia mk1 vRS

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have had the following warning light on for about 4 or so years now in my 2006 Fabia vRS:

A dealer read the code for me a while back and suggested it may be a glow plug issue, they were doing my brake pads at the time so just said to leave it and come back if i had a problem. Well, i have had no problems at all (touch wood) and so the light has just sat on, and not been an issue.

Now, for the past few MOTs i have just had "advisories" regarding it, saying its on. I hear that since the 20th of March this warning light will fail me the MOT. What i would like to do is purchase a device such as this one:

Just to be able to read off any fault codes so i can look them up, and then clear the light off in the hope that it won't come back. So my question is, will this device work with my car (everything i have read suggests it will), and mainly, will it be able to clear that fault light? It says at the bottom of their page that it will not reset service lights, but i don't think this is a service light?

Before anyone says - if i read a fault code off and it looks like something serious i will take it to the garage, but as i haven't had any actual problems for years i am hoping i'll be able to clear it and it will stay gone...

Thanks for any help!

it should do, i have a similar code reader from when the wife had a beetle convertible it turned off her emission lights whenever they decided to come on, it had a new cat and 2 new lambda sensors but would still come on every now and then.

Great, thanks for your help - i will give it a try.

I got a cheap one of ebay for about 16 quid delivered and that reads and deletes mine.

It MIGHT clear the light but it will come back on unless you fix the underlying problem, Could be straight away or a delay but i would guess what triggered it in the first place is still a problem. You might be aswell checking if there is anyone with Full VCDS near you who can scan it and give you a proper diagnosis before splashing out any money on something that might not work. There is a map on here with all the members with VCDS.

Thanks for the advice guys, i have been reminded by my wife that we have a £20 voucher for Amazon to use so have been trying to find the same thing on Amazon, the closest i can find is this one:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Maxiscan-Diagnostic-Scanner-Reader-MS300/dp/B001LHVOVK/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1365065225&sr=1-1&keywords=Maxiscan+Diagnostic+Scanner+CAN+Code+Reader+OBD2+EOBD+OBDII+MS300

I can't see a reason it wouldn't work or why it would be any different to the other one, but wanted to make sure if anyone thought otherwise or ideally if they had one themselves that they know works with the 06 Fabia?!
