Handbrake issues.. HELP!

Recommended Posts

A while ago I took my car in as it was lurching to one side (passenger rear) when applying the handbrake on a hill long story short they unseized the caliper & its been fine since.

The issue seems to have come back now I took it into a different garage & they said its not the caliper its this (image below) which is bent and causing the problem..

I then saw this post: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/204715-wonky-handbrake-adjuster/

Which kind of matches the symptoms I am getting so is this the cause or is it indeed a seized caliper or both?

if i get a new caliper fitted and they adjust the handbrake will this straighten up the adjuster again? as in this image from a manual it sits straight.. http://skoda.workshop-manuals.com/fabia-mk2/images/fabia-mk2-383.png

find a breaker, octy or fabia, all have same bit. At most breakers yards i go to, if it fits in your pocket theres no charge. Pennies i would imagine.

Ill look on etka and get you a part number if ya wanna go dealer

I've had this in to a lock mechanic & he said a staggered bracket is quite normal on these is that the case or is it bent? Confused..

He reckons the handbrake isnt strong enough to bend it..

looking at the slot were the cable goes in its much further around than it should be, i would say its bent buddy.

this one can clearly be seen, its for the fabia

You say a mechanic said its too strong to get bent by these cables - I strongly agree! That equaliser yoke is not bent, it is the cable on the LHS of the picture that is "unloaded" and only the RHS cable that is doing some work, that is why this equaliser is tilted to one side.

If I was being perfectly honest, I discovered this, though not so bad as your car, in my wife's Polo 9N, again, I discovered that the yoke is no longer a spared part for that car, so I guess an older Golf one would fit and ordered one in - then had a second look at things, the handbrake lever/piston was sticking on one side, I cleaned things up, fully retracted pistons on both sides and things improved, only real fix after that was to retro-fit Sharan/Alhambra/Galaxy return springs.
