Considering Skoda Octavia 2L diesel Ambiente

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. I am very new to Skoda but more i look at them more i like them due a few out of many reasons. First reliability and economy. I have laid my eyes on 2007 model 2L tdi ambiente and wondering what are your thoughts. It has done 53k, full service, from Skoda dealer, asking price £6500. Whats the mpg i could expect from this sort of engine, what should i have to look out for etc? Would it be worth to look 1.9 engine with elegance trim or is all nearly the same?

Couple weeks ago i test drove 10 plate elegance and i loved it, but decided is was slightly over my budget, so looking for slightly older models now.

Thanks

Go for it,you won't regret it. I've had a mk1 octy2.0 petrol for the last 8yrs,its had a starter motor and some discs in that time its still on the original exhaust!!!.

That's a good mileage for a 2007, but it's a bit expensive imo

Agreed a bit expensive, but I paid £7k for my Ambiente estate 3 years ago but it had 80k on the clock.

They are great cars and pretty economical: I'm getting between 35 & 70 mpg depending upon how I drive with a long term average of around 48/49mpg.

Not had anything a new fuel filter didn't fix in the three years and its now on 123k miles and no sign of stopping.

I bought mine not so long ago and use it as a taxi and I get around 45-50 around the streets and like 57ish on a run but I mainly use mine for around town.

I have also a ambient on a 2008(57) and I paid 5500 for it 2montha ago with 100k on the clock. But the reason It was expensive was I had a certain criteria I had to fill for licensing reasons it had to be silver so if your not fussed on colour then you can have more of a variety then I had good luck

Hello mate & welcome to the forum.

I can't comment on the 2.0 ltr Diesel engine as I've never owned one. However, I can offer some advice on the 1.9 diesel Elegance, having owned one for nearly two years.

Mine is on a 56 plate and had 45k on the clock when I bought it. It now has 71k on the clock and has been a pleasure to own in that time. The Elegance trim offers some nice kit which more than suits my needs for my daily commute of approx 100 miles, mainly on motorways.

As for economy, have a look at the attached image of an app I use to record my mpg. As I've said previously, this reflects longish trips, mainly on motorways.

The 1.9 although a bit long in the tooth now, and not as refined as the 2.0, is still regarded as a fine engine for both economy and reliability.

Good luck with your search and hope this helps.

FP.

Mines a 2008 2.0 with a few more toys in Elegance trim.

When I bought new I drove both the 1.9 and the 2.0 on extended test drives. No contest I got the 2.0

My MPG is below. The 1.9 is 10% better on fuel.

The dash mpg display over reads by around 8% unless it is a maxidot and therefore can be re-calibrated.

Any problems or queries just use the search or post - Briskoda members know a lot more than the dealers...

Thanks everyone for the answers. Re price, i had a look and it might look bit more expensive but i want to buy it from Skoda dealer with all checks and warranties not from some back street garage which just god knows what has been done to the car as i had some bad experience in the past. At the minute i am driving Volvo S40 which is the beast to be fair on the road and in the petrol station. So had to make heart breaking decision.

Also i have put a deposit one the octi as the dealer is offering right figures for my car and hoping to get bit off theirs once i am there. Will keep you posted!

Going to test drive one tomorrow. What would you suggest to look out for? Thanks

Look for actual evidence of full service history and how many miles/time between services. If you can get it on the motorway accelerate in 3rd to 70 mph hard to ensure that its doesn't go into limp mode. It may smoke a bit but then it shouldn't smoke if you give it some welly a second time.

Check tyres for signs of uneven wear especially on the rears.

It will need a cam belt at 60k miles so budget £ 400 ish as the water pump will need replacing at the same time to be safe.

Is it this one?

A quick look at auto trader shows its priced about right from a dealer with 12 months warranty.

Thats the one Web Ferret. I have asked about the cambelt and it appears that it has been changed at 2011, as they recommend 60k miles or 4 years wich ever is sooner. Also they said that first this car was their demo and was serviced by them, then local chap bought it and was serviced in the local garage.

Just did the test drive, first impression i liked it. Had a chance to go on dual carriage way and town drive. Engine sounds smooth and quiet, it was bit smoky on acceleration when engine was cold, smoke was black. Is this anything to be conserned of? Also needs a good clean inside. Comes with armrest and climate control. Left it open as they cant offer what i am wanting for my car.

53,000 miles in 6 years means it's not been used much.

A bit of black smoke shouldn't be of concern as it's probably sooted up from infrequent use. It may have been started and stopped regularly and left to idle if its been on the dealers forecourt for a while.

No DPF either to catch the soot either, which is a good thing.

Nice spec for an Ambiente, Climatronic, central armrest, rear electric windows, alloys etc.

I would struggle to justify forking out £6.5K for a basic 6 year old car though unless I was getting a very good price for my part-ex.

So how much it should cost from the dealer with warranties and other bits and bobs?

If it only snoked once when you cleared it out then I wouldb't worry. All diesels do that and they need a good clear out but only do this when the engine is hot.

Main dealer trade ins are always poor unless it is a car that they will sell on their forecort. If you 've another make and its older then they won't be interested so will gove you a poor price.

A good dealer will phone the local traders for you and get you a better price than book. But I've only had Subaru do this...

Thats what they did while i was there, and the best offered was £500 less that i wanted but they knocked off their car £250. The problem with my car is that its 2.4 auto diesel with 103k on the clock. So i am bit in dilemma at the moment.

Still looking for one! Found one 2007 year, 55k on clock, one owner with full independent garage history. Its Laurin and klement spec, its just the price £7k. Is it really worth it? I havent seen the car yet but might be seeing it at the weekend.

Some good advice there, I've had a 2.0tdi Octavia for 6 yrs now (it's a 55 plate estate elegance with 76,000 miles). The car has been excellent mechanically. However, it has had paintwork done under warranty on the rear tailgate, both front wings and the o/s rear door...all were begining to show rust. I've also seen rust on the sills of Octavias where stone chips have damaged the paintwork. So please check any prospective car thoroughly, also if you have a full service history Skoda will more likely than not honour the 10 yr paintwork warranty. Mine is not dealer serviced as out local one is very poor, it goes to a VAG independent who are far cheaper and know what they're doing which is a bonus.

Only you can decide that when you see it (and check your bank balance).

I paid just shy of £7k for my '07 Ambiente spec Octavia estate nearly 4 years ago. Full dealer history, just coming up to first MOT, 84k miles, top condition. (Now on 126k).

A very good trade in price made it worthwhile and I've not regretted it for a moment since getting it.

The L&K should be pretty much fully loaded with toys, so as long as they work, the car drives well and the service schedule has been as geared to, then you should be getting a car that will last you a long time to come.

Going to have a look at one in Crewe, registered 2006, full history, elegance 2L engine, just 55k on the clock for £5.5k. Havent seen the pictures yet as its just been in forecourt, but the guy in dealers said he is going to email me them. So finger crossed i will be driving one soon. He also said that the car is very clean and tidy and it wont be waste of time driving 80 miles there.
