Scratched trim around the ignition key hole

Featured Replies

I'm usually really careful with my car but I seem to catch the key on the trim and it marks really easily. In fact after only 6 months it looks a mess.

So 5 minutes with a pair of scissors and some velcro.....the soft hoop side and .......

needs a bit more tidying....but hopefully this freezing weather will be a bit better later today

Good grief, looks like Freddy Krueger has been at it.

Nice fix though, should protect it.

Hi Nigel,

Our previous (Japanese) cars always had a wee green light for the keyhole which is about the only feature the Yeti doesn't have. You might like to check out a self adhesive fabric called Vivelle which I've found useful for these kind of jobs. I bought some originally to carpet the dolls house but have since found other uses for it.

Hope this helps.

Mozart

Not heard of Vivelle but just ordered a couple of sheets to try.

Many thanks

Edward Scissorhands?

Edward Scissorhands?

I picked Freddy as his blades are on the right hand, same side as the key hole. :D

Hi Nigel. This is the sort of tweak which is really rather simple but Id never have thought of it!

My Tig has keyless so it hasn't been an issue but I did notice the demo I borrowed was scratched around the keyhole.

A big THANK YOU from a very appreciative new member.

Geoff

My yeti is also scratched to buggery around the ignition barrel. I was going to use some paint protection film or similar to prevent it getting any worse.

I've never had success in stretching helicopter type tape around curves hence Velcro.

These look good. At the price they are worth a try. Many thanks for the link.

Blimey, after 3+ years ownership there's still no sign of a mark around the ignition key area on mine. I think there must be some owners with poor aiming skills out there! :notme:

^ scratch golfers I suspect ;-D

I am meticulous with all my cars and this damage is totally out of character for me.......but nobody's perfect.

I am the bloke who parks about 16 miles from the shop entrance according to my wife

and when you return to the car some moron has parked next to you, even though there is plenty of space elsewhere

I looked up Vivelle and only found "Estrogen Transdermal Patches". Perhaps I looked on the wrong site (or I'm thick!)

Oops... Found it!

I just put some black gutter mesh rolled up into the grill 6 cable ties it's the right height pulled a long the inside of the grill a looks great, see early posts on grills.

When I left school I started as an apprentice engineer and when somebody complained about being unable to fit something In a hole the standard retort was put some hair around it?
